Patents on Gastroretentive Drug Delivery System: An Overview
Abstract: Background: Conventional oral dosage forms have poor bioavailability and recurrent dosing of the drug is needed to maintain the effective therapeutic concentration in the body. It may lead to poor patient compliance and fluctuations in the plasma level of drug especially in the chronic diseases and disorders. Origin: In outlook of this, to enhance the efficiency and bioavailability of the drug, gastroretentive drug delivery system is developed which can prolong …

The Utilization of Oil Entrapped Floating Alginate Beads in a Gastroretentive Delivery System is Intended to Improve the Bioavailbility of Telmisartan Incorporating Principles of Bioinformatics
Abstract: Oil entrapped floating calcium alginate beads of Telmisartan were successfully prepared using sodium alginate as polymer and two different oil phases of mineral oil and olive oil by emulsion gelation method. The FT-IR spectra of final optimized formulation confirms no drug- polymer incompatibility. The floating time of beads was found to be more than 12 hrs suggesting that the method used for prepration was effective. The floating time of optimized …

Controlled Drug Delivery of Furosemides Using Floating Tablet System
Abstract: The development of gastroretentive drug delivery systems (GRDDS) has gained interest, particularly for drugs like furosemide with narrow absorption windows in the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Furosemide, a commonly used diuretic, faces challenges due to limited bioavailability and rapid elimination, requiring frequent dosing and affecting patient compliance. This review highlights the formulation and evaluation of floating furosemide tablets as an effective strategy to enhance therapeutic efficacy. Floating tablets allow prolonged …

Formulation Development and Evaluation of Floating Tablets of Venlafaxine Hydrochloride
Abstract: The aim of the present study was to formulate and evaluate gastroretentive floating tablets of an antidepressant drug, Venlafaxine HCl. The matrix tablets of Venlafaxine hydrochloride were prepared by employing low viscosity grade hydrophilic polymer HPMC E15LV in combination with any one of the high viscosity grades of HPMC (K4M, K15M, and K100M) as swelling polymers. Sodium bicarbonate was employed as gas generating agent. The tablets were formulated using direct …
