Impact of Profenofos on Oxygen Consumption and Gill Histopathology of the Fresh Water Crab, Paratelphusa jacquemontii (Rathbun)
Abstract: In fresh water crab, gills are crucial for respiration, excretion, acid-base balance, and osmotic and ionic regulation. Profenofos, a well-known organophosphate pesticide has been in agricultural use over the last two decades for controlling pests of paddy, cotton and tobacco. In the present study, an attempt has been made to study the effect of profenofos on oxygen consumption and gill histopathology of the freshwater crab, Paratelphusa jacquemontii (Rathbun). The crabs …

Insilico Structural Analysis and Homology Modeling of Crustin Protein from Fiddler Crab Species
Abstract: In terms of biomass and ecological or economic importance, the crustacea are the largest, most noticeable, and possibly, the most significance group of marine or aquatic arthropods. Because of their enormous commercial value and the necessity to prevent disease outbreaks in the shellfish aquaculture industry, decapods are the experimental animals of choice for practically all biological studies involving immune responses. Antimicrobial host-defense peptides (AMPs) are major components of metazoan immunity, …

Antimicrobial Peptides in Fiddler Crabs: Structural Analysis and Potential Applications
Abstract: Crustaceans represent the largest and most ecologically and economically significant group of marine and aquatic arthropods. Their biomass and critical role in ecosystems highlight their importance. Among crustaceans, decapods are frequently used as model organisms in studies of immune responses due to their significant commercial value and the need to mitigate disease outbreaks in shellfish aquaculture. Antimicrobial host-defense peptides (AMPs) are pivotal in metazoan immunity, especially for invertebrates lacking adaptive …

Alternative Approaches to Cancer Management: Exploring Uani Medicine's Role in Integrated Treatment
Abstract: The Arabic word “Sartan,” which means “crab,” is used to refer to cancer. The term cancer represents a group of diseases, about 200 tumours recognized as abnormal cellular proliferation (neoplasm). Over time the term cancer evolved to encompass a wide range of malignant tumors including those that affect tissues beyond the epithelial layer such as sarcomas and leukemia. The diagnosis, treatment, and management of cancer today must take a multidisciplinary …

Mechanical Performance Evaluation of Brachyuran Shell Particle-Infused S-Glass Fibre Epoxy Polymer Composites
Abstract: Epoxy composites bio-filled with brachyuran crab shell powder and reinforced with S-glass fibres at different loadings (2%, 4%, and 6%) are tested for their mechanical properties in this work. Using modest amounts of filler significantly improved hardness, ultimate tensile strength, and flexural strength in the empirical data. The largest increase in hardness was 64.42% at 4% filler, up from 26.22% at 2%; however, there was a dramatic decrease to 13.11% …
