Multi-population Search Engines for Topology Optimization of Continuum Structures
Abstract: This paper deals with the complex design domains, which usually require higher computational effort, and further tuning of parameters for algorithms is not practicable in terms of time and effort required. Multi search engines can be one such option wherein the search particles in groups are searching the design domain. Aqua search metaheuristic optimization algorithm is used to effectively explore and exploit the search domain. It is observed that this …

Isogeometric Topology Optimization of Continuum Structures using Evolutionary Algorithms
Abstract: Isogeometric analysis is a popular method for the analysis of problems involving complex geometry and governed by differential equations. Meta-heuristics are widely used to determine the optimum distribution of material within the given design domain. The focus of this study is to perform isogeometric topology optimization of continuum structures using meta-heuristics nature inspired firefly algorithm. NURBS basis functions are used to construct the geometric model and to calculate the displacements …

Design, Mathematical Modeling, and Dynamic Optimization of a Speed Breaker-Based Vehicular Kinetic Energy Harvester
Abstract: Decentralized energy harvesting methods are becoming more popular due to rapid urbanization and the rising need for sustainable infrastructure. The road-embedded vehicle kinetic energy harvester (VKEH) design, mathematical modelling, and experimental validation are presented in this work. This paper presents the structural engineering, continuum mathematical modeling, and experimental validation of an optimized road-embedded vehicular kinetic energy harvester (VKEH). The mechanism utilizes a spring- loaded, low-friction rack-and-pinion transmission coupled with a …

Advances in Simulation and Surgical Skill Training Evolution: Narrative Integrative Review
Abstract: Simulation-based education has emerged as a cornerstone of contemporary general surgery training, driven by increasing emphasis on patient safety, competency-based education, and rapid technological innovation. Traditional apprenticeship models, while foundational, are constrained by reduced operative exposure, work-hour limitations, and variability in clinical case mix. In this context, simulation provides a structured, reproducible, and safe environment for acquisition, assessment, and refinement of surgical skills across the training continuum. This narrative review …

Artificial Intelligence and Edge Computing in Oil and Gas: Applications, Architectures, and Operational Realities
Abstract: Artificial intelligence has arrived in oil and gas, and unlike some previous waves of digital enthusiasm in the sector, this one is sticking. Saudi Aramco analyses approximately 10 billion data point every day and reported USD 4 billion in technology-driven operational gains in 2024. ExxonMobil uses AI to increase shale well output by more than 5 percent. Shell has deployed machine learning across more than 10,000 assets using C3.ai to …

Effect on Seismic Analysis of Reinforced Cement Concrete Building Considering Soil Structure Interaction
Abstract: Many researches and case studies indicate that soil structure interaction (SSI) has a significant impact on dynamic response of structure, which may lead to unexpected seismic response or failure of structure. Current seismic codes adopt the methods in which, generally, flexibility of soil is not considered in seismic analysis of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) building. In this study, seismic response of a 35 m tall G+9 storey building resting on …

Artificial Intelligence–Assisted Reduced-Order Modeling and Stability Control in Granular Couette Flow
Abstract: This study develops a reduced-order and stability-aware modeling framework for dense granular Couette flow by integrating continuum mechanics, bifurcation analysis, and data-driven stability estimation. Starting from coupled governing equations for momentum, granular temperature, and microstructural evolution, the system is nondimensionalized and reduced using a Galerkin projection consistent with shear-driven boundary conditions. This yields a low-dimensional nonlinear dynamical system that preserves the essential coupling between velocity, fluctuation energy, and structural relaxation. …

Design and Analysis of Dispersion Flattened Low Loss Photonic Crystal Fiber
Abstract: AbstractThis paper demonstrates the study of triangular lattice hexagonal photonic crystal fiber with GeO2 doped core. The photonic crystal fiber (PCF) studied in this research work has a core doped with 97% molar concentrated GeO2 with seven layers of air-capillaries around the core. The design and analysis of optical characteristics, i.e., dispersion, confinement loss, and effective area have been studied extensively for optimizing the structure for a certain range of …
