Enhancing Bituminous Mixes with Recycled Polyethylene: Performance Analysis Using Marshall Stability Test
Abstract: This study investigates the impact of incorporating recycled low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) in bituminous mixes for potential use in flexible pavement construction. Utilizing a Marshall Stability Test, various proportions of LDPE and HDPE were analyzed to determine optimal stability and flow characteristics. The test maintained a fixed Zycotherm content at 1.5% and varied LDPE content from 2% to 5% by weight, while HDPE content was also tested …

A Review on utilizing waste Polyethylene Terephthalate in composite bituminous mixes
Abstract: Rapid ascend in population growth has led to a corresponding rise in annual Polyethylene Terephthalate waste and others Polymers production. This underscores the urgent necessity to reuse discarded polymers like Polyethylene Terephthalate, Poly Vinyl Acetate, Low Density Polyethylene etc. When discarded polymers isn't recycled, it typically finds its way into landfills, contributes to oceanic garbage patches, or undergoes incineration, each of which poses distinct environmental challenges. Moreover, controlling pollution from …

Analysis of Physical Properties of Polyethylene Terephthalate Coated Aggregates used in Bituminous Concrete Mixes
Abstract: The main cause of climate change that the world has been facing for several years is burning of plastic waste in open air. To contribute to solution of this problem, an investigation was carried out with utilization of plastic waste in bituminous mixtures used in flexible pavement. With varied amounts of Polyethylene Terephthalate (0%, 6%, 6.5%, 7%, 7.5%, and 8%) of asphalt content, variousdesirable properties of aggregates required for bituminous mix …

Influence of ZycoTherm Dosage on Polymer Modified Bitumen and Marshall Performance of Hydrated Lime Incorporated Warm Mix Bituminous Concrete
Abstract: This study examines the effect of ZycoTherm on PMB 76-10 binder characteristics and the performance of PMB-based Bituminous Concrete (BC) Grade-II prepared at reduced mixing temperatures, with and without hydrated lime. PMB 76-10 was modified with ZycoTherm at dosages of 0.05%, 0.10%, 0.15%, and 0.20% by weight of binder and evaluated using conventional and residue-based tests. Increasing ZycoTherm dosage decreased penetration, while softening point, flash point, and elastic recovery increased, …

Reusing Waste Plastics to Enhance Flexible Pavement Performance
Abstract: The disposal of plastic garbage Plastic products including cold drink bottles, carry bags, chocolate and chip wrappers, and all other types of plastic produce serious environmental and financial issues. These plastic types use a lot of energy and deplete the environment in a number of ways. Plastics are non-biodegradable, resulting in long-term environmental pollution and contributing to hazards such as microplastic contamination, marine debris, and threats to wildlife. Additionally, the …

Performance Evaluation of Semi-Dense Bituminous Macadam with Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen
Abstract: This research focuses on evaluating the performance behavior of Semi-Dense Bituminous Macadam (SDBM) mixes incorporating 9% Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen (CRMB), with varying proportions of bitumen binder. The aim is to understand how different binder contents influence critical pavement properties such as Marshall stability, flow value, bulk density, air voids, Voids in Mineral Aggregate (VMA), and Voids Filled with Bitumen (VFB). The experimental investigation reveals that increasing the bitumen content …

Suitability of Stone Dust as an Alternative Aggregate in Asphalt Mixtures Using Rothfuch’s Method of Aggregate Combination
Abstract: The increase in pollution across the globe is one crucial area requiring mitigation. The bye product of quarries can pose great health and environmental risks. Construction industries in Nigeria heavily relies on conventional asphalt aggregate for construction of road pavements. This is one area of interest as mineral fillers and different aggregate gradations have a great effect on the mechanical property of asphalt concrete pavements. Stone dust is obtained from …
