Hybrid Epoxy Composites with Areca and Abaca Fibers: Effect of Nano-SiO₂ on Mechanical Properties
Abstract: This study explores the fabrication and mechanical evaluation of sustainable epoxy-based hybrid composites reinforced with Areca fiber (ARF), Abaca fiber (ABF), and nano-silica (SiO₂). The composites were made using a hand layup process, maked five variants (S1–S5) with ARF content ranging from 0–40 wt% and nano-silica content from 0–8 wt%, while maintaining ABF as the primary reinforcement. Mechanical performance was assessed through tensile strength (TS), flexural strength (FS), and impact …

Mechanical Strength Prediction of Nano-Silica Concrete Composites Using Machine Learning Techniques
Abstract: Nano-silica, or nanosilica, refers to silicon dioxide nanoparticles, which are a kind of silica (SiO₂) with diameters that often fall below 100 nanometers. This nanomaterial has attracted considerable attention because of its distinctive characteristics and diverse array of uses, notably in augmenting the performance of materials such as concrete. The integration of nanoparticles with cementitious matrix in nano-silica concrete offers a viable approach to improving the mechanical characteristics and longevity …

Au@Sio2@PVP-DCMD Membranes: A Breakthrough in Heavy Metal Removal and Antibacterial Defense
Abstract: This study investigates the development and characterization of multifunctional gold-doped silica (Au@SiO₂) membranes for water distillation and antibacterial applications. The manufacturing process integrated gold nanoparticles into silica matrices using sol-gel techniques. Structural analysis was conducted using SEM (showing uniform pore distribution with an average pore size of 40-50 nm), FTIR (confirming Si-O-Si and Si-Au-Si bonding peaks at 525 cm⁻¹ and 1310 cm⁻¹ respectively), EDX (revealing gold nanoparticle content of 1.5 …

A Review of Modifications of Cement Slurry Formulations for Carbon Dioxide Storage
Abstract: Climate action, which includes activities aimed at mitigating climate change or reducing its adverse impacts, is the thirteenth goal of the 2030 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Tthe successful commercial deployment of CCS technology would heavily rely on the integrity of the cement sheath used to complete the wellbores at the CO₂ storage sites. It has been established that the cement sheath made from conventional ordinary Portland cement (OPC) is not …
