Experimental Analysis of Aramid Fiber Reinforced with Tungsten Carbide
Abstract: This study investigates the mechanical performance of aramid fiber-reinforced epoxy composites enhanced with varying weight percentages of tungsten carbide (WC) powder as a secondary reinforcement. The composites were fabricated using both the hand lay-up and vacuum bagging techniques to ensure uniform dispersion of materials and quality surface finish. Tungsten carbide particles with an average size of 4 microns were incorporated into the aramid fiber matrix at incremental concentrations of 0%, …

Evaluation of Mechanical Behaviour of Tungsten Carbide and Magnesium Reinforced Aluminium Matrix Composites
Abstract: With industries like automotive and aerospace also being more inclined on the lightweight material and strength that is much substantial, the aluminium-based metal matrix composite has become a major focus of interest. This paper examines the influence of addition of tungsten carbide (WC) and magnesium (Mg) particles on the mechanical characteristics of Al6063 aluminium alloy. The crucible casting technique was made in two composite compositions 2.5 percent and 5 percent …

Effect of machining parameters on the tool wear in drilling of 3D PF C/C composite
Abstract: Carbon–carbon (C/C) composites are broadly used in aerospace, defence, shipbuilding, chemical, and nuclear industries owing to their high strength-to-weight and stiffness-to-weight ratios. However, they are brittle, anisotropic and non-homogeneous in nature, making them difficult to machine. Incorrect machining parameters can cause defects such as burrs, delamination, and fibre bundles pullout. This paper aims to study the hole surface and tool wear during drilling of 3D pierced fabric (PF) carbon-carbon (C/C) …

Comparative Analysis of Processing-Property Relationships in Metal and Polymer Matrix Composites: A Unified Statistical Framework for Hardness Characterization
Abstract: Composite materials, encompassing both metal matrix composites (MMCs) and polymer matrix composites (PMCs), exhibit complex processing-property relationships that fundamentally govern their mechanical performance across diverse applications. This study presents a unified statistical framework for analyzing hardness characteristics in composite systems, using aluminum-tungsten carbide (Al-WC) metal matrix composites as a representative model system while establishing connections to polymer matrix composite behavior. The investigation employed comprehensive processing parameter optimization, microstructural characterization, and …

Fabrication and Mechanical Characterization of Hybrid Metal Matrix Composite Castings
Abstract: This work investigates and addresses the casting of a novel hybrid composite material with tungsten carbide and aluminum-silicate particles mixed at varying weight fraction rates. Production of hybrid composite has some advantages if it is processed by near net shape techniques. The simplest method for dealing with this hybrid composite is the turbulence produced by the vortex agitating technique. The vortex mixing method is used in this study to create …

Utilizing Chemical Machining Methods in the Metalworking Sector
Abstract: Chemical machining is a kind of material removal technique used to produce desired shapes and dimensions by selectively or completely removing material through carefully regulated chemical attack using etchant solutions, which are solutions of acids or alkalis. One type of chemical machining is chemical milling, also known as contour machining, etching, or chemiluminescence. The aerospace industry uses chemical milling to remove thin layers of material from extruded parts for aircraft …
