Thermophilic Adaptation of Anaerobic Sludge for Electricity Production
Abstract: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Anaerobic digestion of biogas inside the digester occurs in a particular temperature range. Research shows that the production can be increased by 33% by switching over from mesophilic temperature range (3040 ° C) to thermophilic temperature range (5060 ° C). Even then, biogas plants generally work in mesophilic range because a large amount of energy is required to maintain the high digester …

Production and Characterization of Thermostable Amylase Produced from Spore Former Thermophilic Bacilli Isolated and Screened from Teff (Eragrostis teff) Starch Rich Soil
Abstract: There is a need to isolate and screen amylase-producing bacilli bacteria from soil rich in content of teff starch at high temperature environment. Therefore, the aim of this study was to isolate and screen amylase-producing bacilli isolates and characterization of their optimal amylase activities. Amylase-producing bacilli were isolated and their enzymes characterized. Effect of temperature, pH, substrate and salt concentration were determined. All isolates have clear zone over 15 mm …

Assessment of In Vitro Probiotic Potential of Lactic Acid Bacteria
Abstract: AbstractProbiotic potential of fermented milks isolates Lactobacillus rhamnosus NS6, Streptococcus thermophilus MD2 and Streptococcus thermophilus MD8 were carried out by performing various in vitro tests. MD2 and MD8 were able to survive at pH 2 and 3 in broth, while NS6 was found to be pH sensitive and could not survive at pH 2, but maintained its viability at 3 pH. All the cultures were able to survive at 0.5 …

Study of Diatom Flora in Geothermal Springs of Bakreswar, West Bengal, India
Abstract: AbstractGeothermal springs are mostly formed due to tectonic movements of the earth or volcanic eruptions leading to the release of hot water in the form of artesian wells. The environment is very suitable for the growth of thermophilic Cyanobacteria. Nevertheless, some members ofBacillariophyceae (diatoms) are also found in such geothermal springs, although, very high water temperature and alkaline water is generally not very conducive for diatom growth. The present study …

Bacteria on Salt Water Medium Evaluation: The Conceptual Impacts of Temperature
Abstract: The potential impact of temperature on bacteria on salt water medium for crude oil degradation in an aerated lagoon system was simulated using MATLAB Simulation software. The specific rate of bacteria obtained revealed maximum at temperature of less than 35oC with the order of 90 o C (11 cfu/ml) > 60 o C (40 cfu/ml) > 45 o C (35 cfu/ml) > 30 o C (28 cfu/ml). Most of the …

Screening of Cold-Active Lipase from Psychotropic Fungi
Abstract: Lipase is a class of enzymes that catalyze as, hydrolysis of long-chain tri-glycoside and comprise the large significant group of bio-catalysts for biotechnological applications. Currently, the cold-active lipases (CLPS) are the enzyme of choice for pharmacists, organic chemists, biochemical, biophysicists and engineering processes, bio-technologists and micro-biologists as well as biochemists. The production of CLPs is mostly existed from psychrophilic microorganisms. Psychrophiles and psychrotrophs extracellular colds-active enzymes at low temperature (cold) …

Bioprocessing of Used X-ray Films for Silver Recovery by Thermoalkaliphilic Protease from Thermus aquaticus YT-1
Abstract: An environmentally benign enzymatic method for recovery of silver and polyethylene from used X-ray films was developed. This industrially scalable enzymatic process for the recovery of silver was investigated using the thermophilic alkaline protease from Thermus aquaticus YT-1. The rate of gelatin hydrolysis of X-ray film increased with the temperature till 70 ºC, suggesting enzyme stability till 70 ºC. Further, pH 10 was optimum for this process. Transparent polyethylene film …

Chicken Feather Degradation Using Thermus aquaticus YT-1 and Application of Keratinolytic Protease Produced
Abstract: ABSTRACTAim of the study undertaken was to develop a process to manage chicken feather waste, without use of potential infectious microorganism. Biodegradation of chicken feather mediated by production of keratinolytic protease involving use of non- pathogenic thermophile Thermus aquaticus was investigated. The structural complexity of native chicken feather acts as inducer to increase protease production as compared to feather meal. The keratinolytic protease produced demonstrated more than 50 % stability …
