Machinability and Reliability Analysis of Al6063–Al2O3 Metal Matrix Composites Using Image-Based Flank Wear Evaluation
Abstract: This study explores the machinability and reliability characteristics of Al6063–Al2O3 metal matrix composites (MMCs) as analogues for polymer–metal hybrid composite systems, focusing on their potential use in lightweight structural and metal matrix composite-integrated applications. The composite specimens were fabricated through stir casting with 3% and 9% Al2O3 reinforcements, followed by mechanical characterization that confirmed significant enhancements in hardness and strength compared to unreinforced Al6063. Machining experiments were performed using a …

Analytical exploration of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) mix proportions via the Taguchi method
Abstract: To address the challenge of limited space within structural elements containing densely packed reinforcement, Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) was developed. This study focuses on optimizing the experimentation process using Design of Experiments (DoE). Taguchi's standard L(3) orthogonal array (OA) was utilized, consisting of four factors with three levels each, resulting in nine trial mixes. The factors examined include water-powder ratio, cementitious material content, superplasticizer dosage, and steel fiber content. The aim …

Optimization of Process Parameters for FDM Printed Tensile Test Specimens to Reduce Energy Consumption and CO2 Emission for Sustainable Manufacturing
Abstract: Three-Dimensional Printing (3D Printing) is one of the advanced manufacturing technologies which is being tremendously used in many fields because of its innovative applications. The concept of making a three-dimensional product by adding the material layer upon layer through Computer Aided Design (CAD) file data as input source is known as 3D Printing. Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) is one of the leading technologies from all the available 3D Printing technologies, …

Effect of 3D Printing Process Parameters on the Tensile Strength of Polylactic Acid (PLA)
Abstract: This study employs the Taguchi approach to systematically analyze and optimize critical Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) parameters, focusing on their effect on the tensile strength of 3D-printed Polylactic Acid (PLA) components. The study explores three levels of layer thickness (0.15 mm, 0.25 mm, and 0.3 mm), infill densities (25%, 50%, and 75%), and nozzle temperatures (200°C, 205°C, and 210°C) across three infill patterns: Triangular, Gyroid, and Zig-zag. A total of …
