Inhibition of Quorum Sensing to Mitigate the Risks of Membrane Biofouling in Biological Wastewater Treatment
Abstract: Membrane-based systems play a pivotal role in various applications, providing efficient separation, purification, and filtration processes across diverse industries such as water purification and desalination. However, this system faces major challenge of membrane biofouling impacting the efficiency and sustainability of such systems. Biofouling occurs when various microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, etc. adheres to the surface of membrane and form biofilm which results in reducing membrane permeability and increasing its operational …

Whispers of the Microbial World: Unveiling Bacterial Dialogues through Quorum Sensing
Abstract: Quorum sensing is a special way of bacteria by which they can regulate their own gene expression as per the population density of the bacteria. It is basically a type of cell-to-cell communication pathway used by the microbes. The signal molecule which helps in this mechanism are called auto inducer(AI). As the mechanism depends by changes in the cell density, so when the cell density reaches to the threshold cell …

Quorum Sensing and Biofilm Dynamics in Pathogens: An Evolving Frontier in Infectious Disease
Abstract: Bacterial and fungal pathogens rarely act as solitary invaders. Instead, they engage in sophisticated chemical communication known as quorum sensing (QS) to coordinate population-wide behaviours and construct structured, multicellular biofilm communities. These biofilms, composed of extracellular polymeric substances, not only facilitate microbial persistence on biotic and abiotic surfaces but also confer remarkable protection against host immune defenses and antimicrobial therapies. QS systems act as central regulators of biofilm dynamics, orchestrating …

Pharmacokinetic Profiling and Molecular Docking of Carvacrol and Structural Analogs: Targeting Quorum Sensing Proteins to Disrupt Biofilm-Mediated Antimicrobial Resistance in Multidrug-Resistant Bacterial Pathogen
Abstract: Antibiotic resistance, particularly in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, has become a major global health threat, exacerbated by the organism's ability to form biofilms and regulate virulence through quorum sensing (QS). The LuxR and LasR receptors are key regulators in this process, influencing both pathogenicity and antibiotic resistance. This study investigates potential QS inhibitors targeting these receptors as a strategy to mitigate antibiotic resistance. The primary objective was to identify novel ligands that …

The Impact of Plastic Pollution on Terrestrial Ecosystems: Microplastics, Heavy Metals, and Quorum Sensing in Soil Health
Abstract: Plastic pollution is one of the most significant environmental challenges today, particularly in the context of terrestrial ecosystems. The widespread accumulation of plastic waste, including microplastics, has led to pervasive contamination of soil, disrupting ecosystems and human health. This article explores the interactions between plastic pollutants and the terrestrial environment, with a focus on soil pollution, microplastic behavior, and the implications for ecosystems. Microplastics, which are tiny plastic particles with …

Impact of Therapeutics on Carbapenem-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii
Abstract: Acinetobacter baumannii, a formidable pathogen in healthcare settings, poses a significant threat due to its propensity to cause nosocomial infections. This bacterium exhibits several attributes that enable it to evade the human body's natural defenses. A. baumannii's remarkable adaptability is highlighted by its ease in acquiring antibiotic resistance determinants, rendering it challenging to treat. Its ability to thrive in hospital environments underscores the urgent need for stringent infection control practices …

Host-Pathogen Coevolution: Implications for Immune Evasion and Pathogen Fitness
Abstract: The interaction between hosts and pathogens represents a continuous evolutionary struggle, shaping both microbial virulence and host immunity. Pathogens employ diverse strategies to evade immune surveillance, ranging from antigenic variation and molecular mimicry to hijacking of host immune checkpoints. Simultaneously, hosts refine innate and adaptive immune mechanisms to counteract infection and limit damage. This reciprocal adaptation, known as host–pathogen coevolution, influences pathogen persistence, transmission, and fitness, while also sculpting immune …

Plant Bioactive Metabolites and Their Role in the Prevention and Control of Dental Diseases and Infections.
Abstract: The oral diseases, including dental caries and periodontitis, affect masses worldwide, and have historically been managed with synthetic antimicrobials that cause deleterious side effects, leading to mounting bacterial resistance. Consequently, contemporary dentistry is rapidly shifting toward phytomedicine using plant bioactive molecules, such as polyphenols, terpenes, anthraquinones (berberin, eugenol, curcumin, catechins, allicin, and azadirachtin. These compounds offer potent antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-regenerative properties that are crucial for preventing and curing dental …

Plant-Derived Antimicrobials as Next-Generation Solutions to Multidrug Resistance
Abstract: The steady rise of multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens is reshaping how clinicians, researchers, and policymakers think about infection control. When bacteria acquire the ability to survive exposure to three or more antibiotic classes at once—whether through efflux pumps, enzyme-mediated drug destruction, target modifications, or reduced membrane permeability—treatment options narrow dramatically, hospital stays lengthen, and mortality climbs. Conventional pharmaceutical pipelines have struggled to keep pace with this biological arms race, pushing the …
