Bacteriophages- A New Frontier in Medicine
Abstract: Bacteriophages, or phages, are viruses that specifically target and infect bacteria, offering an innovative alternative to traditional antibiotic treatments, especially in the face of rising antibiotic resistance. The resurgence of phage therapy has been driven by the increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant bacterial strains and the slowdown in the development of new antibiotics. Phages, unlike antibiotics, target specific bacterial strains, reducing the impact on the natural microbiota and potentially offering a …

Bacteriophage Therapy in Dairy Farming: A Potential Alternative to Antibiotics
Abstract: The widespread use of antibiotics in dairy farming to control bacterial infections has led to significant challenges, including the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and concerns over antibiotic residues in milk. Consequently, there is an increasing demand for alternative approaches to control bacterial infections in dairy cattle. One promising solution is bacteriophage therapy, which uses viruses that selectively infect and destroy bacteria. As a result, the need for new strategies to …

Gut Feelings: Unravelling the Secrets of the Microbial Universe Within
Abstract: The human digestive system hosts a varied and dynamic community of microorganisms, commonly known as the gut microbiota. This complex community, which includes various organisms such as bacteria, archaea, viruses, and fungi, is essential and important for numerous bodily functions such as metabolism, immune response, and cognitive development. The composition and vast diversity of the gut microbiome are shaped by diet, lifestyle, and genetic factors. Disruptions in this balance, known …

Antimicrobial Peptides and Bacteriophages as Next-Generation Alternatives to Conventional Antibiotics
Abstract: The growing threat of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has underscored the urgent need for innovative alternatives to conventional antibiotics. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and bacteriophages are gaining recognition as next-generation therapeutics due to their distinct mechanisms of action and ability to target resistant pathogens effectively. AMPs, which can be natural or synthetic, disrupt microbial membranes and offer broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity with a reduced likelihood of resistance development. Bacteriophages, as bacteria-specific viruses, provide precise …

Quorum Sensing and Biofilm Dynamics in Pathogens: An Evolving Frontier in Infectious Disease
Abstract: Bacterial and fungal pathogens rarely act as solitary invaders. Instead, they engage in sophisticated chemical communication known as quorum sensing (QS) to coordinate population-wide behaviours and construct structured, multicellular biofilm communities. These biofilms, composed of extracellular polymeric substances, not only facilitate microbial persistence on biotic and abiotic surfaces but also confer remarkable protection against host immune defenses and antimicrobial therapies. QS systems act as central regulators of biofilm dynamics, orchestrating …

Impact of Therapeutics on Carbapenem-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii
Abstract: Acinetobacter baumannii, a formidable pathogen in healthcare settings, poses a significant threat due to its propensity to cause nosocomial infections. This bacterium exhibits several attributes that enable it to evade the human body's natural defenses. A. baumannii's remarkable adaptability is highlighted by its ease in acquiring antibiotic resistance determinants, rendering it challenging to treat. Its ability to thrive in hospital environments underscores the urgent need for stringent infection control practices …

Antibiotics in the Modern Era: Challenges, Misuse, and the Fight Against Resistance
Abstract: Overuse and inappropriate use of antibiotics in human medicine, agriculture, and environmental pollution. It is one of the biggest public health risks of the 21st century. The discovery of new antibiotics slowdown and the emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) microorganisms has highlighted the urgent need to Creative approaches to fighting opposition. This review explores the current challenges in antibiotic use, the factors driving resistance, and the strategies being implemented to address …
