A Unique Insight on Detoxification and Inactivation of Metal Toxicity in Herbal-Metal Preparations in Siddha System
Abstract: Metal chelating property of various time tested siddha herbs were tested individually vis a vis Phyllanthus emblica, Embelia ribes, Elettaria cardamomum, Withania somnifera, Corollocarpus epigaeus, Centella asiatica, Celastrus paniculatus, Smilax chinensis, Psoralea corylifolia, Solanum trilobatum and Indigofera aspalathoides. Most of the plants showed metal chelating effect suggesting their role in in-activating metal toxicity. Use of these herbs along with metal preparation may offer some value in reducing toxicity due to …

Characterization and Antimicrobial Investigations of Isomeric Pr(III) Juglonates
Abstract: Hydroxy napthoquinone derivatives constitute an interesting group of ligands which is recognized as ‘Juglones’. Isomeric Lawsone-Juglone and Phthiocol-Plumbagin are the most important members of the Juglone series and are biologically active, having natural origin. They form isomeric pairs of ligands resulting into isomeric pairs of metal chelates. The isomerism is occurring due to formation of either five or six membered rings in the metal chelates. In the present work Prasodymium …

Guanidine as a Starting Material for Preparing a Scale Inhibitor
Abstract: Oilfield scale inhibition, which can obstruct fluid flow in pipelines, valves, and pumps during oil production and processing, is critical for preventing scale formation. Effective scale inhibitors (SIs) minimize downtime and enhance productivity by preventing the build-up of insoluble crystals in water systems. In oil processing, scale formation results from the precipitation of salts due to incompatible aqueous phases, leading to equipment blockage. Phosphonates are highly effective chelating agents for …

Synthesis, Characterization and Antibacterial Activity of Mono- and Binuclear Co(II) and Cr(III) Mixed-Ligand Complexes Derived from α-Amino Acid and 1,10- Phenanthroline with 1,3-Diaminopropan as a Spacer
Abstract: Mixed-ligand complexes of Co(II) and Cr(III) ions were synthesized from the reaction of metals chloride salts with α-amino acid (H2L1) as a primary ligand and 1,10-phenanthroline (L2) as secondary ligand. The ligand 2-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-ylamino)-2-(2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl) acetic acid (H2L1) has been synthesized from the condensation reaction of inobenzothiazol with 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde in the presence of HCN as three components–one pot reaction. H2L1 considered as a tridentate chelater of ONO-coordination binding type toward the metals, …

Arsenic Induced Oxidative Stress and Its Possible Reversal by Chelation Therapy
Abstract: Arsenic (As) is a metalloid listed in group Va of the periodic chart. It exists in nature in the oxidation states +V (arsenate), +III (arsenite), 0 (arsenic) and −III (arsine). In the aqueous environment inorganic arsenic appears commonly in the oxidation states +V and +III as arsenous acid (As (III)), arsenic acid (As (V)), and their salts. Chronic and acute exposures of arsenic leads to cancer, cardiovascular disease (hypertension and …

Metal Complexes of Cephalexin and Their Biological Activities: A Review
Abstract: Cephalexin and its derivatives are commonly utilized in the pharmaceutical and medicinal industry due to their biological and pharmaceutical activities, including anti-microbial, anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, and herbicidal activities as well as possessing high palatability and being useful for skin and joint infections. Interestingly, some organic drugs, including cephalexin, which exhibit toxicological and pharmacological properties, can be administered in forms of metal complexes. Many researchers have synthesized organic ligands derived from cephalexin …

Phytotherapeutic Potential of Melaleuca: An Integrative Review of Phytochemistry and Antimicrobial, Antifungal, Antioxidant, and Antiviral Mechanisms
Abstract: Melaleuca alternifolia and other species of the Melaleuca genus stand out for the broad spectrum of pharmacological properties attributed to their bioactive compounds, such as monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, and polyphenols. This study aimed to critically review and analyze scientific evidence produced between 2005 and 2025 regarding the antimicrobial, antifungal, antioxidant, and antiviral activities of Melaleuca, correlating its phytochemistry with molecular mechanisms of action. For this purpose, an integrative literature review …

Cadmium Toxicity: Oxidative Stress and Organ Dysfunction
Abstract: Due to continued anthropogenic mobilization, cadmium accumulation in the environment causes various health problems because of its diverse toxic effects, extremely lingering biological half life (20–30 years), low rate of excretion from the body and storage predominantly in soft tissue primarily liver and kidney. Cadmium is known to have numerous noxious effects, including nephrotoxicity, hepatoxicity, osteoporosis, cardiovascular toxicity, lung toxicity, and reproductive toxicity. The biologically significant ionic form of cadmium, …
