Experimental Investigation of Hematite Fines Reduction to Magnetite with Coal and Coke Fines
Abstract: In this current investigation, we aimed to comprehensively examine how various key processing parameters influence the reduction of hematite particles enveloped by coal and coke fines. This reduction process took place in an externally heated cylindrical steel container, which we will call the "work tube." This work tube had a diameter of 70 mm and a height of 300 mm and was situated within a pot furnace. For the experimentation, …

Experimental and Simulation Study on Reduction Kinetics of Magnetite Ore by using Hydrogen
Abstract: In the present work, magnetite ore fines pellets were prepared for a study of reduction kinetics using hydrogen gas. In the present work, various parameters are investigated to assess their influence on reduction kinetics with respect to hydrogen utilisation. The different input variables influence the process, yielding the reduction fraction. The effect of temperature on reduction kinetics with hydrogen flow rate was explored for the optimum value of these parameters. …

Fabrication, Interfacial Characterization, and Superparamagnetic Properties of Fe₃O₄@γ-Fe₂O₃ Core/Shell Nanoparticle-Reinforced Chitosan Biopolymer Composites
Abstract: Magnetite/maghemite core/shell nanoparticles were prepared by alkaline co-precipitation of Fe(II) and Fe(III) precursors followed by controlled thermal oxidation at 350 °C and subsequently incorporated into chitosan at 1, 3, and 5 wt% loadings by solution casting. The resulting films were evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), vibrating-sample magnetometry (VSM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and tensile testing. XRD showed the characteristic cubic spinel reflections …

Comparative Analysis of Polymer-Enhanced and Conventional Magnetorheological Fluids in E-Bicycle Semi-Active Suspension
Abstract: In light of the increased use of electric bicycles as a sustainable transport means, various mechanical challenges emerge which were absent in traditional bicycles, primarily concerning vibration isolation and riding comfort. Indeed, hub motors, batteries and the entire drivetrain system produce dynamic excitations which passive suspension cannot handle effectively. This paper presents a comparison of conventional magnetorheological (MR) fluid and the polymer-based MR nanocomposite fluid within the context of semi-active …

Optical Image Sensing and Analysis of Iron Ore Pellets: A Machine Learning Approach
Abstract: The present work is aimed to improve quality control in steel production using SEM imaging and machine learning. High-resolution SEM images of iron ore pellets, primarily composed of hematite and magnetite, are analyzed to understand their microstructural features, which significantly impact pellet performance during reduction processes. Traditional microstructure analysis is manual, time- consuming, and prone to inconsistencies. This study proposes an automated approach using K-Means Clustering, Canny Edge Detection, DBSCAN, …

Utilizing Metallurgical Wastes for the use of magnetic separation
Abstract: To enable a wider application of magnetic applications, concentration and purification parameters must be enhanced. The inventive fusion of electromagnetic gradients and multipurpose separations will establish new magnetic-based trends for large-scale downstream processing. More creative solutions are required for downstream processing to advance and resolve the problems facing bioprocessing today. Chromatography is the method that a conservative industry sector uses the most frequently. Chromatography provides a few benefits, but it …
