Supported cobalt-promoted platinum bimetallic nanoparticles – a thermal study
Abstract: The Co-promoted Pt-based bimetallic catalysts were prepared using surface organometallic method (SOMC), to obtain catalysts with cobalt to platinum surface atomic ratio of 1:2 and 1:1. Temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) profiles showed two distinct temperature regions for hydrogen uptake both by the parent 5% Pt/Al2O3 and the Co-promoted catalysts. The shift in peak maxima in the case of promoted catalysts to higher temperatures has been interpreted as a result of formation …

Efficient Nanostructure Cathode Material for Low Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells: LaSr0.5Mn0.5Co2-xFexO5+δ
Abstract: While significant progress has been made in anode materials with enhanced tolerance to coking and contaminant poisoning, cathodic polarization still contributes considerably to energy loss, more so at lower operating temperatures. Here we report a synergistic effect of co-doping in a cation-ordered double-perovskite material, LaSr0.5Mn0.5Co2-xFexO5+δ , which has created pore channels that dramatically enhance oxygen ion diffusion and surface oxygen exchange while maintaining excellent compatibility and stability under operating conditions. …

Electrooxidation Study of Acetic Acid at Low Temperature in Membrane Less Microfluidic Fuel Cell for Portable Power Application
Abstract: The global energy crisis due to dependence on fossil fuel and its limited reserves followed by environmental pollution are the key concerns to the research communities. However, recently developed micro-fluidic fuel cells using hydrogen-rich fuels are most likely to replace the batteries, due to their compactness, high efficiency and simplicity in operation. In this context, the PtxSn/C (where, x=1, 3, 5) electrode-catalysts were prepared and the electro-oxidation of acetic acid …

Comparative Study of Various Materials for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells: A Review
Abstract: Solid State Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) offer clean and efficient power generation systems with good fuel flexibility, high power density, low pollution, modularity and high energy conversion efficiency. The conventional SOFCs operate at a higher temperature of about 1000 â°C. This limits the use of materials to be used for their construction. Presently, the major research effort ongoing is to develop the low cost intermediate temperature (IT) SOFC. These cells …

Kinetic Studies of Pristine and Nanonickel Catalyzed Ammonia Borane
Abstract: The high hydrogen content chemical hydride, Ammonia Borane (NH3BH3, AB) is considered in its pure and catalyzed form for decomposition kinetics. The thermodynamics and slow kinetics are the major issues in addition to potential damage the material likely to cause to the fuel cell. The ability of AB for faster dehydrogenation at lower temperatures with Nickel in its nanoform is explored. The release kinetics, activation energy is computed using Kissinger …

Fuel Cell Power Conditioning for Low Power Applications
Abstract: Fuel Cells are the important building blocks of hydrogen-based applications. Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFCs) are useful for ambient temperature operating conditions. Fuel Cells cannot be interfaced to loads directly owing to many sources of power losses. Power Conditioning and Interface are equally important for driving loads using Fuel Cell generated power. Paper discusses the requirements of power conditioning, types of DC–DC converters, Experimental work performed on DC–DC converter …

Reduced Switch Seven-Level Multilevel Inverter for Renewable Energy Applications
Abstract: The world is currently dealing with two majorissues. The first issue is a shortage of fossil fuels in the nearfuture, and the second is increased atmospheric pollution, which leads to an increase in ambient temperature (globalwarming), which necessitates the need to switch fromtraditional energy sources to renewable energy sources (RES).As the power generation from renewable energy sources isincreasing gradually, the importance of multilevel inverters isalso rising day by day for the …

Modification of Structural and Electrical Properties of GDC with Sb3+ Ions
Abstract: Gadolinium doped cerium (GDC) is a potential candidate as electrolyte in the solid oxide fuel cells operating in intermediate temperatures. The optimum performance of GDC is obtained only when sintered at higher temperatures (~1400°C), where cerium is prone to reduction. Improvement in the conductivity and stability of GDC is expected by doping it with trivalent ions. In the present context, successful attempts have been made to synthesize Ce0.8Gd0.1Sb0.1O2-δ by solid …
