Revamp of Feed Preheat Network Using Aspen Hysys in a Kero Hydro-Desulphurization Unit
Abstract: The paper is based on the revamp of feed preheat network in a Kero hydro-desulphurization unit. This revamp is beneficial as it does not require additional equipment to raise the feed temperature. Desulphurization of crude is a catalytic process used in oil and gas refining industry to remove sulphur content from refined petroleum products. Previously, feed was charged from the crude distillation unit at 103°C. Due to envisaged changes, the …

Effect of Variation in LPG Composition on Heating Value Using Aspen HYSYS
Abstract: Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is becoming an increasingly important part of the world’s energy sources. The determination of the heating value of LPG is of great economic importance in domestic and industrial purposes. This paper discusses the effects of impurities (e.g., moisture, H2S) and the presence of other hydrocarbons (e.g., ethane, pentane, propene, and butene) on the heating value of LPG fuel with different propane to butane. Different LPG composition …

Aspen HYSYS Simulation of Suspension (Slurry) Process for the Production of Polyethylene
Abstract: AbstractThis study deals with the steady state simulation of polyethylene plant using Aspen HYSYS V10 simulation model. Looped reactor model is used to mimic the behaviour of the suspension (slurry) polymerization process. Effect of various operating conditions like the inflow rate of the monomer ethylene on solvent, catalyst, co-monomer and hydrogen flow rate are studied. Model predicted that the change in monomer flow rate linearly affected the process variables. Keywords: …

Oil Cuts Evaluation Obtained by Molecular Distillation from Heavy Petroleum Fractions in the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Process
Abstract: Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) is a refining process that cracks heavy oil molecules in light fractions, mainly compounds with 3 to 12 carbon atoms. It is composed by a converter, main fractionator and gas plant. In this work FCC was modeled using Aspen HYSYS Cat cracker process simulator aiming to evaluate the true boiling point (TBP) curves of oil cuts obtained by falling film molecular distillation from a Brazilian atmospheric …

Wax Deposition Profile Estimation in Production Pipeline Review
Abstract: Wax deposition has been a major challenge in flow assurance of paraffinic crude oils. A major problem occurs because of a decrease in the bulk oil flowing and pipe wall temperatures. Wax deposits form when the temperature of the produced fluid falls below the wax appearance temperature or the cloud point temperature. Problems like pipeline plugging, increased pumping pressure and reduction in production rates are very common. Sophisticated mechanical and …

Esterification in Reactive Distillation Column Using Software Packages: A Review
Abstract: Abstract: Reactive distillation is the combination of reaction and separation in a same column. This represents an exciting alternative to traditional liquid phase chemical reaction processing. In reactive distillation, separation of products from unconverted reactants allows for better conversion, because produce elimination put out of place equilibrium and forces the reaction towards completion. The energy requirement of the conventional column is very and requires large recycling costs. Reactive Distillation is …
