Minimisation of Fire Outbreaks in Nigeria via Fire Safety Education in Architecture in the Universities
Abstract: Frequent fire outbreak in buildings is a problem in Nigeria which has led to the loss of many human lives and the destruction of substantial properties. To minimize this menace in Nigeria, it therefore became extremely important to carry a research work to recap the architecture curriculum of study with respect to fire safety education in the universities in Nigeria, to provide guidelines for its improvement. Desktop study was considered …

COMPARATIVE ASSESSMENT OF FIRE RESISTIVITY OF WALLING MATERIALS IN ONITSHA MARKETS IN NIGERIA
Abstract: Nigeria has been facing the problem of frequent fire outbreaks in markets and they are very regular in Onitsha markets in Anambra State. To minimise this problem, a research was conducted on the three major markets in Onitsha with the aim of comparatively assessing the fire resistivity of their walling materials, so as to generate guidelines for designing walls of market buildings in Nigeria. The research employed desktop study as …

Study on Improvement of Air Quality in Underground Car Parking Area Using Jet Fan
Abstract: In recent years, jet fans have become a popular alternative to traditional ducted systems for ventilating pollutants in large parking areas like underground car parks and tunnels. Proper forced draft ventilation is necessary to remove harmful pollutants, such as vehicle exhaust fumes and smoke in the event of a fire. It is crucial to have a quantitative understanding of how exhaust gases, containing various toxic particles, propagate in these areas. So …

Design and Implementation of an Automatic Fire Extinguishing System Using Arduino UNO
Abstract: Fire safety is an essential concern in both residential and industrial spaces. Conventional firefighting techniques frequently call for human assistance, which is not always adequate or timely. This study discusses the design and development of an automatic fire suppression system that uses an Arduino UNO microcontroller, a 5 V single-line relay, an infrared (IR) sensor, a buzzer, and a 5 V DC pump. The system identifies a fire by detecting …

Evaluation of Emergency Response Plans in Industrial Environments Using Simulation Techniques
Abstract: Industrial facilities, particularly those in the chemical, manufacturing, and energy sectors, face significant hazards due to their complex operations and the handling of hazardous materials. Ensuring the safety of workers and minimizing the impact of incidents require robust and effective emergency response plans (ERPs). Traditional evaluation methods, such as drills and tabletop exercises, often fall short in replicating the complexities of real-world emergencies. These methods may lack the realism needed …
