Review of Relevant Evapotranspiration Models for Estimating Reference Evapotranspiration
Abstract: The word evapotranspiration (ET) is a very pivotal component of the hydrological cycle, and it has a very crucial but accurate design and operation in terms of management of irrigation systems. Its evaluation by direct measurement using lysimeters, atmometers, energy balance or pan evaporimeter is not usually feasible because it is complex, expensive and time consuming. Therefore, relevant indirect methods such as FAO–56 Penman–Monteith (PM), Priestly Taylor (PT), Blaney–Morin Nigeria …

Modeling Evapotranspiration using Artificial Neural Networks
Abstract: The prior knowledge of evapotranspiration (ET0) is crucial for estimating crop-water demand, preparation of water distribution schedules and water diversion. The present study investigates the utility of artificial neural networks (ANNs) and linear regression models (LRs) for forecasting ET0 based on hydro-meteorological data. Based on different inputs, eight ANN and LR models are developed. The results are compared with those of FAO-56 Penman-Monteith expression. The published daily climatic data from …

Thornthwaite’s Potential Evapotranspiration Rate Assessment and Implication on Rainfall Induced Floods in a Coastal Expanse of Nigeria
Abstract: This study examined the potential evapotranspiration (PET) rate effects on rainfall-induced floods within Port Harcourt, a coastal city in Nigeria. Mean monthly rainfall and air temperature data for 39 years (1979–2018) was sourced from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and used to evaluate the potential evapotranspiration (PET) of the area using the Thornthwaite’s method. Results revealed that the mean rainfall and PET values for Port Harcourt during the periods under review …

Quantification of Snow/Glacier Melt Impacts of Historical and Future Climate Change on Eastern Himalayan River
Abstract: Millions of the population on Eastern Himalayan Rivers (EHR) totally depend on, domestic use, agriculture, and hydropower. Several studies found that climate warming threatens this EHR's hydrological regime. In order to understand the hydrologic response of their headwaters and how climate change affects streamflow, a hydrological modeling study is conducted in the Teesta River Basin (TRB) in EHR using an open-source Quantum Geographical Information System (QGIS) with semi-distributed QSWAT1.5 (Soil …

Sustainable Architecture for Rural Communities: The Tanzanian Family House Model
Abstract: Sustainable rural housing in East Africa must respond simultaneously to climatic stress, water scarcity, sanitation challenges, and socio-cultural practices. This article presents the Tanzanian Family House as a climate-responsive and resource-efficient housing model developed specifically for rural Tanzanian communities. The project integrates low embodied energy materials, passive environmental strategies, and decentralized infrastructure systems to create a durable and culturally grounded dwelling that can be constructed using local skills and materials. …

Integrated Remote Sensing Indices for Assessing Pre-Monsoon Water Scarcity Vulnerability in a Semi-Arid Coastal Ecosystem: A Case Study of Barda Wildlife Sanctuary, Gujarat, India
Abstract: Freshwater availability fundamentally shapes the structure and function of dryland ecosystems, where evapotranspiration exceeds precipitation for most of the year. Protected areas in semiarid regions face intensifying hydrological stress from climate variability, growing wildlife populations, and resident human communities, yet systematic spatial assessments of water scarcity remain scarce for many critical habitats. The Barda Wildlife Sanctuary in coastal Gujarat, India, has recently become a secondary home for the endangered Asiatic …

Groundwater Potential, Status and Its Recharge Behavior under Climate Change Consequence
Abstract: Water is considered life for every living substance, from simple ones to complex structural systems that exist on the earth. Without water, life is not possible. The only source of water is precipitation and it is uncertain in a country like India, where demand for water is increasing at a tremendous rate in each and every sector. To satisfy this increasing demand of water in each and every sector, one …

Water Resource Analysis and Potential Evaluation of Bhima Basin in Maharashtra (GIS Approach)
Abstract: Potential of surface water and ground water resource evaluated and demand on resource figured out at sub catchment level. HEC-HMS software was used for hydrologic modeling taking dynamic canopy for evapotranspiration, SCS curve number for surface loss, constant monthly for base flow and storage-discharge for reservoir consideration. Basin model and curve numbers were generated using ArcGIS (GeoHMS tools). Ground water fluctuation study on 10 years water level data carried out. …
