Review: Virulence factors, resistance genes and pathogenicity of Moraxella catarrhalis
Abstract: An estimated 2-4 million cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) in adults are exacerbated by Moraxella catarrhalis annually in the US, making it a pathogen of increasing significance for respiratory tract infections. It often colonizes the nasopharynx without causing any symptoms and an opportunistic bacterial infection of the respiratory mucosa that is exclusive to humans. In our study, we reviewed references about the important virulence factors that M. catarrhalis possess …

Impact of Therapeutics on Carbapenem-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii
Abstract: Acinetobacter baumannii, a formidable pathogen in healthcare settings, poses a significant threat due to its propensity to cause nosocomial infections. This bacterium exhibits several attributes that enable it to evade the human body's natural defenses. A. baumannii's remarkable adaptability is highlighted by its ease in acquiring antibiotic resistance determinants, rendering it challenging to treat. Its ability to thrive in hospital environments underscores the urgent need for stringent infection control practices …

Plant-Derived Antimicrobials as Next-Generation Solutions to Multidrug Resistance
Abstract: The steady rise of multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens is reshaping how clinicians, researchers, and policymakers think about infection control. When bacteria acquire the ability to survive exposure to three or more antibiotic classes at once—whether through efflux pumps, enzyme-mediated drug destruction, target modifications, or reduced membrane permeability—treatment options narrow dramatically, hospital stays lengthen, and mortality climbs. Conventional pharmaceutical pipelines have struggled to keep pace with this biological arms race, pushing the …

Pathogens in Nosocomial Infections: Epidemiology, Resistance, and Control Measures
Abstract: Nosocomial infections, also known as healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), are a serious global health issue, leading to higher patient morbidity, prolonged hospital stays, and increased medical costs. Various pathogens—such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites—are responsible for these infections, especially in healthcare environments where they easily spread. They can be transmitted through direct contact with infected patients, contaminated medical equipment, or even airborne particles.Patients with weakened immune systems, those requiring prolonged …

In-Silico Repurposing of Antipsychotic Drugs Against Novel Protein Targets in Multidrug-Resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Abstract: Multidrug-resistant TB is a growing worldwide health concern, particularly in high-burden areas. Resistance to frontline drugs like isoniazid and rifampicin is caused by mutations in key Mycobacterium tuberculosis proteins. Given the difficulty of developing new antibiotics, medication repurposing offers a good alternative. The potential use of molecular docking to target resistance-associated TB proteins with FDA-approved antipsychotic drugs is investigated in this work. Three proteins were selected: InhA (PDB ID: 5W07), …

A study on Antibiotic Resistance: An Analysis of Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Implications
Abstract: Antibiotic resistance (AR) represents one of the most critical existential threats to global public health, rapidly eroding the efficacy of established antimicrobial therapies and portending a return to the pre-antibiotic era. This analysis explores the intricate molecular landscape defining this crisis, focusing specifically on the primary mechanisms of action (MoA) utilized by major antibiotic classes—including cell wall inhibitors, protein synthesis inhibitors, and nucleic acid synthesis inhibitors—and the corresponding, diverse mechanisms …
