Direct Synthetic Routes of MXenes and Their Application in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics (CFRPs) As Supplementary Sizing Layer†
Abstract: Sized carbon fibers with a supplementary sizing layer of MXenes (synthesized via traditional MAX phases), bonded to carbon fibers (CFs) as well as the resin matrix via different kinds of physicochemical (van der Waals force, hydrogen bonding, covalent bonding) interactions enhanced the performance of the resulting carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) materials. This is because of the strong interface generated due to the appearance of MXene at the interface of …

Raman Spectroscopy for The Determination of Relative Crystallinity of Carbon Fibers
Abstract: Analogous to X-ray diffraction technique, the light scattering technique discovered by Sir CV Raman has great potential in quantifying the crystallinity of new materials, like the highly crystalline pitch based carbon fibers (NX90 and NX100). For comparison the Raman spectra of polyacrylonitrile based carbon fibers (T700SC) were also recorded. From the Raman spectral analysis, it was found that the pitch based carbon fibers exhibit far far higher degree of crystallinity …

Diglycidyl Ether of Bisphenol A (DGEBA) Based Epoxy Sizing Agent Induces Surface Polarity in Carbon Fibers†
Abstract: Determination of the chemical structure and composition of the sizing agent is a challenge as its concentration is low, varying in the range from ~0.5 wt.% (for polyacrylonitrile, PAN, based carbon fibers) to ~1 wt.% (for pitch-based carbon fibers). Moreover, such a piece of knowledge is vital for designing compatible polymer matrices to prepare CFRPs for diverse applications. As a result, the sizing layer that is coated on the carbon …

Composition and Structure of Oil Finishing Agent †
Abstract: Use of oil finishing agent is widely used in the process of production of carbon fibers to impart unusual and exceptional strength to the carbon fibers, the key load-bearing component, of the advanced materials, namely, carbon fiber reinforced composites (CFRPs). CFRPs are being widely used in the realm of aeronautics, astronautics, aeronautics, geonautics, sports equipment, and many more. However, quite often, much of the knowledge on the composition of oil …

Degradation of Building Materials by Corrosive Pollutants
Abstract: Fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) is used for the corrosion suppression of reinforced concrete structures (RCS). One of the main issues with reinforced concrete constructions is corrosion. It interacts with acids, alkalis and salts to produce disintegration in building materials components. Pollutants and effluents speed up disbanding inside and outside reinforced structures. Bio-wastes come in contact of building materials to develop miro and macro-organism and these organisms release acid substances to …
