Modeling and Optimization of Extrusion Process for Black Gram–Carrot Pomace Incorporated Rice-based Extruded Product
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to optimize ready-to-eat extruded snack with incorporation of byproducts like broken rice, carrot pomace along with black gram to design a product which is rich in fibre and protein content. For optimization of extrusion process for the development of black gram–carrot pomace incorporated rice-based expanded product, experiments were planned in central composite design using response surface methodology. The independent process variables for extrusion were …

Studies on the Growth Promoting Effects of Coconut Leaf Vermiwash on the Germination of Black Gram (Vigna mungo L.)
Abstract: Coconut leaf vermiwash (CLV) was produced from actively vermicomposting coconut leaf litter + cow dung substrate (5:1 W/W) basis by Eudrilus fetida. It significantly increased the growth of Vigna mungo at 1:5, 1:10, and 1:20 dilution in trails. Increases the growth was recorded at 1:5 dilution of coconut leaf vermiwash. Increasing the population of the soil microorganisms, particularly plant beneficial ones, and their activities which would have facilitated increased uptake …

Investigation on the Efficacy of Leaf Extract of Goat Weed, Ageratum conyzoides on NR Biophysiological Characteristics of Black Gram Vigna mungo Infected with Root–Knot Nematode Meloidogyne incognita
Abstract: Root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne sp. are economically important plant pathogens affecting root system that can be managed by cultural practices, chemical nematicides and resistant cultivars. Use of nematicides for the management of root knot nematodes are being restricted due to environmental and human health concerns in addition nematicides often do not provide long term suppression of the pathogens. Therefore, there is a need to develop alternate ecofriendly management strategies for the …

Production Potential, Economics, Energetics and GHG Emission Potentials of Paddy based Cropping System in a Micro-watershed under Damodar Catchment, West Bengal under Hot, Moist, Sub-Humid Agro-Ecological Zone
Abstract: AbstractThe Damodar catchment area in West Bengal is primarily dominated by rice-rice mono-cropping system. The present study was conducted in three villages through Naopara, Kantia and Syamsundarpur in the Barddhaman district of West Bengal; to explore the potentials of integrating other field crops in the existing rice based cropping system towards improving the monetary productivity and farmers’ livelihood. Field experiments were conducted taking different cropping systems through rice–rice, rice–potato–black gram, …

Production Potential and Economics of Different Crops under Varying Physiographic Conditions in Damodar Command Area (Part), West Bengal, India
Abstract: Rice-rice cropping system is the predominant cropping pattern in the majority of Damodar command area, West Bengal. However optimized utilization of resources towards enhanced overall crop productivity as well as economic return and at the same time maintenance soil quality, crop diversity is important. Present study evaluates the on-field crop suitability and economic viability of vegetables (potato, chilli), oilseed (mustard, sesame) and pulses (black gram) towards formulation of alternate rice …

Effect of Fungicides on Cercospora Leaf Spot and Anthracnose Diseases of Urdbean
Abstract: AbstractUrdbean [Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper] also called black gram, is one of the major kharif pules crop in India. Many diseases are known to attack Urdbean, among them, Cercospora leaf spot (Cercospora canescens Ell. and Mart.) and anthracnose (Colletotrichum lindemuthianum) are the most prevailing diseases of India. A combination of three fungicides viz., Indofil M 45, Hexaconazol + Mancozeb and Companion at different concentrations were applied on two varieties of …

Enhanced Biodiesel Production Via Encapsulation of Yeast Cells in Biocompatible Polymers
Abstract: Yeast-based biodiesel production offers a sustainable alternative to conventional fossil fuels. However, factors like harsh environmental conditions and shear stress during processing can limit yeast cell viability and overall biodiesel yield. This study explores the potential of encapsulation technology using biocompatible polymers to improve yeast performance in biodiesel production. Encapsulation can create a protective barrier for yeast cells, shielding them from harsh environments and shear stress during processing. This protection …
