Assessment of Acoustic Noise Generated from Machines in a Mechanical Workshop Using 1-Octave Band Frequency Analysis
Abstract: Acoustic noise is one of the prominent occupational health hazards, particularly in manufacturing and process industries. Prolonged exposure to loud noise can cause noise induced hearing loss of the exposed personnel. Limiting the exposure to noise intensity within its permissible exposure limit is adopted as one of the administrative control measures to reduce the risk of hearing loss. However, frequency specific assessment of occupational noise exposure is limited. Here, we …

Flame Phenomenology for Premixed Methane and Propane/Air in Developed Meso-scale Channels at Ambient Conditions
Abstract: This paper reports the development of a meso-scale channel for propagation of methane and propane-air mixtures at low Reynolds number. An experiment was conducted in 3, 4 and 5 mm internal quartz tube diameters at premixed conditions of the fuel/air. The tubes were vertically mounted and sometimes preheated uniformly laterally. Uniformly laterally heating gives a zero temperature gradient. Flame phenomenology at different equivalence ratios (φ) of the mixture was discussed. …

A Ventilated Dual-Function Photonic–Phononic Metasurface for Simultaneous Passive Radiative Cooling and Low-Frequency Noise Mitigation in Building Envelopes: Conceptual Design and Computational Feasibility Analysis
Abstract: Acoustic metamaterials for sound insulation and photonic/radiative-cooling metamaterials for passive thermal management have each matured separately for building-envelope retrofit, but existing studies address ventilation, acoustic damping and radiative thermal control in isolation, and no reported unit-cell architecture co-designs all three within a single shared structure. This gap persists because materials that are acoustic absorptive are generally dense and structurally opaque, whereas materials that are highly solar-reflective are conventionally applied to …
