A Mechanics based Analytical Model for Evaluating the Seismic Performance of Unreinforced Masonry Building Retrofitted with Wire Mesh
Abstract: A mechanics based analytical model employing the results of experimental work is proposed for the seismic performance evaluation of low-rise unreinforced masonry buildings reinforced with steel welded wire mesh. The model is based on rigid diaphragm and weak pier-strong spandrel concept, i.e. the damages occurs in piers and spandrels remain fully elastic. Two types of failure criteria’s, namely, flexural failure and shear failure were considered. Lateral force-deformation curves are defined …

Reduction in Stress Distribution in Horizontal Well Cementing
Abstract: Abstract: This paper addresses the stress distribution problem and effect on the cement behind the casing in the horizontal wells. The uneven stress distribution in the horizontal well causes crakes and breakage of the concrete which leads to various problems like instability of the bore hole in the affected region and secondly it paves path for flow of unwanted fluids in the cemented channels. Hence, to neglect this kind of …

A Comparative Study of Neem Oil and Mahogany Oil as Corrosion Inhibitors for Mild Steel Exposed to Hydrochloric Acid
Abstract: Corrosion is essentially an oxidation process, wherein the oxidizing agent itself undergoes reduction due to the influence of corrosion agents like salt, air, or moisture. Metals and their alloys naturally tend to react spontaneously with their surroundings, leading to a detrimental impact on their mechanical and physical properties. This project aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of two different oils, namely neem oil and mahogany oil, as agents to prevent acid …

Managing Pavement Settlement Risk: Impact of Waterlogging and Soil Conditions
Abstract: In the context of road infrastructure, the occurrence of waterlogging due to rainfall can have significant repercussions. Rainwater often infiltrates the road surface and, depending on factors such as the depth of the foundation and the extent of penetration into the ground, can lead to the soil beneath the road becoming either moist or saturated. This, in turn, can result in a reduction of the soil's bearing capacity. When vehicles …
