The global issue of reinforcing steel corrosion in concrete structures presents a significant challenge, resulting in surface cracking, discoloration, spalling, and ultimately compromising structural integrity. The considerable expenses associated with addressing extensively deteriorated sections, coupled with the uncertainty of completely resolving the underlying corrosion issue due to potential intrinsic structural vulnerabilities, presents further multifarious problem. This article offers a comprehensive and systematic exploration of the corrosion triggers in concrete structures. Moreover, it delves into a range of pragmatic preventive measures, encompassing solutions like protective coatings, corrosion inhibitors, and cathodic protection. Additionally, a holistic corrosion management strategy is thoughtfully outlined within the contents of this paper.
