The Effects of HIV/AIDS Worldwide
Abstract: The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), which targets immune system conductors (CD4 cells), has infected millions throughout the world. HIV lowers the body's defences by infecting certain bodily fluids (blood, sperm, vaginal fluids, and breast milk) through unprotected sex, contaminated needles, or mother-to-child transmission. Early flu-like symptoms may go unrecognised, but if not treated, HIV advances to AIDS, which is characterised by severe immune system impairment. However, advances in antiretroviral therapy …

Alopecia Areata: Complex Roots and Potential Cures
Abstract: Autoimmunity is when the healthy organs of an individual’s body are attacked by its own immune system, leading to illness or functional abnormalities. The hair follicles (HFs) are wrongly destroyed by the immune system in a condition known as Alopecia Areata and results in chronic non-cicatricial hair loss discernible by spherical patches. It’s a severely worsening or relapsing malady that can be permanent during severe falling out of hair. In …

Monkeypox Virus (MPXV): Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, and Control Strategies: Exploring the Recent Resurgence of Monkeypox, Its Transmission Dynamics, Clinical Manifestations, and Public Health Responses
Abstract: Monkeypox virus (MPXV) has re-emerged as a significant public health concern, with increasing cases reported worldwide. This zoonotic virus, primarily endemic to Central and West Africa, has demonstrated the potential for human-to-human transmission, leading to outbreaks in non-endemic regions. Unlike smallpox, which was eradicated through mass vaccination, monkeypox continues to persist due to the lack of widespread immunity and effective antiviral treatments. The resurgence of MPXV in recent years, particularly …

Virulence Factors in pathogens :mechanisms of infection & disease progression
Abstract: Pathogens, like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, have evolved specialized tools – known as virulence factors – that help them infect hosts, escape the immune system, and cause disease. These factors play a key role in determining how severe an infection becomes, how quickly it spreads, and how the body responds. Some pathogens use adhesins to stick to host cells, while others produce toxins that damage tissues or disrupt normal …

A Review on Unmasking Merkel Cell Polyomavirus: From Discovery to Cancer Driver
Abstract: Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) is a small, non-enveloped, circular double-stranded DNA virus belonging to the Polyomaviridae family, first characterized in 2008. Epidemiological data suggest widespread exposure, with seroprevalence rates approaching 80% in adults. While primary infection is typically asymptomatic, rare integration events in Merkel cells can initiate oncogenesis, yielding Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC), a neuroendocrine skin cancer with a five-year survival rate under 60%. This review integrates findings from six …
