The Transient Performance of Power Line Towers
Abstract: This paper presents a refined approach to the transient analysis of power line towers. Each section of the tower’s steel structure is accurately modeled as a non-uniform transmission line. Among other features, an efficient representation of the towers’ cross-arms as open-ended non-uniform lines and their subsequent approximation by lumped capacitors will be explored. Furthermore, the error introduced by neglecting the presence of the cross-arms, as well as the effect of …

An Optimized Configuration of Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) for High Birefrigent and Low Loss Application using FDTD Method
Abstract: AbstractTwo simplified structures are theoretically designed for high birefringence and low loss guiding photonic crystal fiber at operating wavelength 1.55 µm. The effective index, birefringence and confinement loss are obtained using finite difference time domain method. Simulation result shows that the maximum modal birefringence is equal to 86.33x10-5 for one configuration and lowest confinement loss in another configuration is nearly equal to 0.70x10-2 dB/Km at same operating wavelength.Keyword: birefringence, FDTD …

Managing Pavement Settlement Risk: Impact of Waterlogging and Soil Conditions
Abstract: In the context of road infrastructure, the occurrence of waterlogging due to rainfall can have significant repercussions. Rainwater often infiltrates the road surface and, depending on factors such as the depth of the foundation and the extent of penetration into the ground, can lead to the soil beneath the road becoming either moist or saturated. This, in turn, can result in a reduction of the soil's bearing capacity. When vehicles …
