Heterosis in Plants
Abstract: It refers to hybrid vigor or heterosis; herein, the offspring expressed better traits than one or both parent lines. This most often manifests in crop breeding as increased yield in F1 hybrids compared with their parents. Developing high-yielding hybrid cultivars across a wider range of crops represents an important strategy for addressing future food security. However, conventional hybrid breeding approaches are fraught with significant challenges in many self-pollinating crops, such …

To Evaluate the Effect of Biofertilizer on Plant Growth Parameter of Triticum aestivum (Wheat)
Abstract: AbstractThe term ‘biofertilizer’ or 'microbial inoculants/fertilizer’ can be generally defined as a preparation containing live or latent cells of efficient strains capable of nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization which are used for application of seed and soil with the objective of increasing the number of such microorganisms and accelerating certain microbial processes to enhance the degree of availability of nutrients to the plants. Increasing cost of chemical fertilizers is unaffordable by …

Studies on Dynamics of Post-Kharif Rice Fallows Using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Techniques in India
Abstract: India has largely become self-sufficient in food grain production at macro level. However, the mismatch between the demand and supply, imbalance in food grain components, declining growth rate of food grain yields especially in cereals, pulses, oilseeds, rice, and wheat in the last decade add to the woes of malnutrition and food security problems. The rice, wheat and pulse crops constitute the main components of food security mission. Optimal utilization …

Farmers In India: Impact of Minimum Support Price, Exploitation in Mandis, and Conditions Leading to Distress Selling
Abstract: Indian agriculture remains dominated by small and marginal farmers who face persistent income insecurity despite the existence of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system. The MSP, designed to provide remunerative prices and food‑security procurement, has produced significant benefits in select regions and crops—especially wheat and paddy in states like Punjab, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh. However, its coverage is uneven, with many farmers in pulses, oilseeds, and horticulture regions selling below …

Biofertilizers: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Abstract: India, being an agriculture-based country, there has always been a concern about crop improvement here. Chemical fertilizers increased crops yield, but eventually leached out soil, polluted water basins, degraded ecosystems, reducing soil fertility and thus causing damage to overall environment. Organic fertilizers are costlier and they released nutrients in the surrounding environment thus degrading soil and water quality and human health. Thus came into picture the use of GM crops …
