Determination of Effect of Temperature on Bacteria and Fungi (Salt and Fresh Water)
Abstract: This study investigates the effect of temperature on bacterial and fungal activity in fresh and saltwater environments contaminated with crude oil. Utilizing standard characterization techniques, pure cultures of bacteria and fungi were isolated and identified. A bioreactor setup was employed to assess microbial growth and heat generation at varying temperatures (15°C to 120°C) over a 6-hour period. The results demonstrated that temperature significantly influences microbial activity, with bacterial growth rates …

Comparative Investigation of Solar Still by Varying Basin Water Depth and Integrating Energy Storage Material and Steel Wool Fibre
Abstract: The main obstacle to human life in the modern age was the unequal distribution of drinking water on Earth. The demand for drinking water is increasing due to population growth and industrial exploitation, while supply levels are essentially unchanged. Because of its simplicity in construction, techno-economic advantages, and environmental friendliness, solar energy is still regarded as one of the best methods for turning saline into potable water. The main disadvantage …

Comparative Review of Innovations in Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) Technologies
Abstract: Self-compacting concrete (SCC) is a revolutionary material in contemporary construction, with better workability and lower labor requirements without any sacrifice in strength or durability. The latest advances have been in terms of furthering its environmental and performance attributes by using different materials and methods. One of them is substituting ordinary Portland cement with high-volume fly ash and calcined calcium carbonate (BCC), cutting CO₂ emissions by as much as possible while …

Circular Economy Approach in Wastewater Treatment: Recycling and Recovery
Abstract: The demand for freshwater resources has been greatly raised by the exponential expansion of urbanization, industrialization, and population, therefore causing water scarcity in many different countries. Concerning the safe disposal of sewage to safeguard public health and the environment, traditional wastewater treatment methods have mostly concentrated. These linear solutions, however, sometimes ignore the possibilities of wastewater as a useful resource. Focused on resource recovery and recycling, the circular economy (CE) …

Integrated Water Balance and Water Stress Index–Based Sustainability Assessment of a Semi-Arid Island Ecosystem
Abstract: Freshwater scarcity is an increasingly critical challenge in semi-arid island environments due to limited natural water availability, high dependence on seasonal rainfall, growing population pressure, and expanding agricultural activities. Island ecosystems are particularly vulnerable to water stress because they often lack perennial surface water sources and rely heavily on groundwater recharge during short and highly variable monsoon periods. This study presents a comprehensive assessment of water demand, post-monsoon water availability, …

Punjab’s Wetlands as Inland Analogues of Marine Ecosystems: Status, Stressors and CommunityLed Conservation.
Abstract: Aquatic and wetland ecosystems in Punjab, India, represent ecologically significant yet increasingly degraded socioecological systems embedded within an intensively managed agrarian landscape. Despite their recognised importance, existing studies largely treat these systems using conventional freshwater ecological frameworks, with limited integration of microbiologically mediated processes and broader ecosystem theories. A key research gap, therefore, lies in the lack of interdisciplinary approaches that can holistically interpret wetland structure, function, and governance across …

Sustainable Architecture for Rural Communities: The Tanzanian Family House Model
Abstract: Sustainable rural housing in East Africa must respond simultaneously to climatic stress, water scarcity, sanitation challenges, and socio-cultural practices. This article presents the Tanzanian Family House as a climate-responsive and resource-efficient housing model developed specifically for rural Tanzanian communities. The project integrates low embodied energy materials, passive environmental strategies, and decentralized infrastructure systems to create a durable and culturally grounded dwelling that can be constructed using local skills and materials. …

Grey Water Recycling
Abstract: Domestic grey water recycling and reuse in residential buildings have been comprehensively examined. It is estimated that recoverable grey water can account for approximately 35% to 40% of total household water demand, highlighting its substantial potential to reduce freshwater consumption in domestic settings. A comprehensive worldwide review of grey water recycling and reuse practices has been reported, highlighting the increasing importance of sustainable water management in both developed and developing …

Green Hydrogen Production Using Air-Conditioner Condensate Wastewater: A Review of Solar-Powered Electrolysis Systems
Abstract: As the world moves toward sustainable and clean energy solutions, growing attention has been directed toward alternative energy carriers such as Hydrogen (H 2 ). Hydrogen is considered an attractive energy option due to its high-density energy and ecofriendly properties. However, most conventional H 2 production methods rely on fossil-fuel-based processes such as steam methane reforming and coal gasification, which contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions and environmental degradation. As …

Polymeric Materials in the Anthropocene: Environmental Accumulation, Human Health Concerns, and Cultural Response
Abstract: Polymers made via conventional techniques are very useful because of their strength, adaptability, and cheap. Plastics are not degradable naturally, which creates lots of environmental issues. As plastic products degrade over time, they decompose into microplastics which enter the environment. These microscopic particles called microplastics have been identified in agricultural soils, freshwater and marine environments, and atmospheric dust, enabling their continuous movement through ecosystems and food webs. Recent research shows …

Integrated Remote Sensing Indices for Assessing Pre-Monsoon Water Scarcity Vulnerability in a Semi-Arid Coastal Ecosystem: A Case Study of Barda Wildlife Sanctuary, Gujarat, India
Abstract: Freshwater availability fundamentally shapes the structure and function of dryland ecosystems, where evapotranspiration exceeds precipitation for most of the year. Protected areas in semiarid regions face intensifying hydrological stress from climate variability, growing wildlife populations, and resident human communities, yet systematic spatial assessments of water scarcity remain scarce for many critical habitats. The Barda Wildlife Sanctuary in coastal Gujarat, India, has recently become a secondary home for the endangered Asiatic …

Machine-Learning-Assisted Development of Polymer-Biochar Composite Adsorbents for the Removal of Heavy Metals from Gomti River Water
Abstract: Rapid urbanization, industrial discharge, and agricultural runoff pose a significant threat to freshwater sustainability and public health. Within these ecosystems, polymer pollutants—such as microplastics, nanoplastics, synthetic fibres, and additive residues—have emerged as persistent vectors capable of adsorbing and transporting toxic heavy metals. Because these polymeric contaminants dynamically interact with conventional aquatic parameters to alter pollutant mobility and ecological risk profiles, there is an urgent need to transition from passive environmental …

Molecular Surveillance of Spring Viraemia of Carp Virus (SVCV) and Koi Herpesvirus (KHV) Across Major Aquaculture Zones of Telangana, India
Abstract: Viral diseases represent a persistent threat to cyprinid aquaculture; however, region-specific surveillance data from tropical production systems remain limited. To address this gap, a comprehensive statewide active surveillance programme was undertaken across Telangana, India, from 2019 to 2022 to investigate the occurrence of two priority transboundary pathogens, Spring Viraemia of Carp Virus (SVCV) and Koi Herpesvirus (KHV). A total of 414 fish specimens were systematically collected from five surveillance sectors …
