Usability of the ‘Chemotherapy Spill Kit’ Among Nursing Personnel Working in the Chemotherapy Administration Areas: A Follow up Study
Abstract: Toxicity of antineoplastic drugs is known since decades. A chemotherapy spill kit (CSK) usage can prevent the exposure of health care workers handling these drugs. A Chemotherapy spill kit was operationalised in Radiotherapy ward, radiotherapy day care and medical day care where chemotherapy is administered of a tertiary care centre. Present study assessed the usability of the same using non-participatory observation of these areas after 6 months of operationalization of …

Ameliorating Effect of Vitamin C on Acid Orange 7 Induced Oxidative Stress in the Gill of the Fish, Anabas testudineus (Bloch, 1792)
Abstract: Acid orange 7, an azo dye, was exposed to Anabas testudineus at a sublethal concentration (0.27 g/l) for 24, 72 and 96 h in order to evaluate the antioxidant status in the gill tissue. In addition, vitamin C at 0.55 g/l was exposed for 7 days after the dye exposure. PHD-2 Activation to Stabilize HIF-1α and FASN in Mammary Gland Cancer
Abstract: Activation of prolyl hydroxylase-2 (PHD2) has emerged as an attractive target to counteract tumor hypoxia and thereby uncontrolled cellular proliferation. We utilized an integrated strategy to identify new PHD2 activators using series of in silico tools and in vitro methods. The in silico screening helped to identify 4-ethyl-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2,2-dimethyl-2H-chromen-7-yl acetate (BBAP-3), [4-(7-acetyloxy-4-ethyl-2,2-dimethylchromen-3-yl)phenyl]acetate (BBAP-4), 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2,2,4-trimethyl-2H-chromen-7-yl acetate (BBAP-5) as an activator, who are structurally similar to KRH102140 (a known activator of PHD2). All …

Evaluation of Metal Pollution in Wetlands Using Fish as an Indicator
Abstract: The current study has attempted to document the heavy metal pollution in wetlands using fish as an indicator. Heavy metals are one of the most toxic, persistent and widespread groups of contaminants in aquatic systems. Their effects may often occur and remain unrecognized at the individual level but slowly, over a period of time, show up at a population level. Over a few decades globally there has been growing interest …

The Ames Test in Twenty-first Century
Abstract: Since the 19th century, industrial development has increased exposure to mutagens and possible carcinogens. In order to avoid these health risks, several techniques have been developed to recognize genotoxins. In the 1970s, Dr. Bruce Ames and colleagues, studying the histidine operon of Salmonella typhimurium, observed that histidine (−) auxotroph mutants were reverted to histidine (+) upon exposure to a mutagen. The researchers further observed that known carcinogens were mutagenic to …

Pattern of Poisoning, Management and Antidote Availability in St. Paulo’s Specialized Hospital Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Abstract: Poisoning is the contact with a substance that results in toxicity. It can be deliberate or accidental. Antidotes are substances opposing the harmful effect of poisons and are cornerstones in the management of poisoning. Availability of antidotes highly affects the effective poisoning management. To assess the poisoning management in relation to an antidote availability. A retrospective study was used to assess the practice of poisoning management and antidote availability in …

Histopathological Effects of Silver Nanoparticles on Gills and Liver of Freshwater Fingerlings Catla catla (Ham.)
Abstract: Fish is the best biomarker to identify the adverse effect on surroundings. Here, the fingerlings of major carp (Catla catla) were used as a model in the present work to investigate the toxicity caused by silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The fish exposed to different concentrations of 10 μg/L and 30 μg/L AgNPs for 15 days were sampled at days 5, 10 and 15 for histology. This exposure caused organ injuries, and …

Attenuation of Doxorubicin-induced Hepato- and Nephrotoxicity by Proanthocyanidins from Myrica nagi Bark in Wistar Rats
Abstract: Due to dose-related toxic effects, doxorubicin, a very potent and often used anti-cancer medication, is largely limited. The current research investigated the protective impact of Myrica nagi bark (PMN)-isolated proanthocyanidins on hepato-induced doxorubicin and nephrotoxicity in Wistar rats. The animals were subdivided into six classes of five rats each. Group I got PMN (200 mg/kg, p.o.) for 21 days, Group II received Doxorubicin (DXR) (60 mg/kg, i.p.) once, 48 h …

Effect of Initial Temperature and Diameter of Ethanol Droplet on Evaporation Dynamics in Convective Air Medium
Abstract: Ethanol is a suitable biofuel as it has fewer toxic emissions and higher-octane numbers. For spray combustion applications, the gas phase motion must be considered while numerically investigating the fundamental aspects of droplet evaporation and combustion processes. Hence, we have numerically simulated the evaporation dynamics of an isolated spherically shaped ethanol droplet under a forced convective air environment in the absence of gravity. The momentum transfer between two phases is …
