Abstract

Medicinal plants have their special status in human welfare due to their therapeutic applications since human civilizations. Medicinal plants have exceptional and precious characteristics that play an essential role in human civilizations. Medicinal plants are main source of traditional medicines and numerous medicines are indirectly produced from plant community. Traditional treatment procedure like Ayurveda, Unani and Chinese medicine are basically based on plant extract with minimum side effects and presently in use on many accounts. Population explosion, insufficient supplies of synthetic medicine, expensive treatment, simultaneous drug resistance development in human population, excessive side effects have directed scientific community towards herb based treatment alternatives. Therefore, scientific community has been intensified their research interests towards medicinal plants biology. Among old civilizations, India is rich in biodiversity and numerous medicinal plant species are available here. Large amount of raw materials are collected from these medicinal plants which are being supplied for various industry like drug, perfume or color. Approximately, 8000 herbal remedies have been listed in AYUSH system in India. Apart from raw material supply, these practices provide an alternative source of income for tribal community of country. Madhya Pradesh is one of the main states in country where biodiversity is more and tribal communities are mainly dependent on nearby forest product including medicinal raw material. Sheopur is located in north region of state and share its boundary with Rajasthan as well. In Sheopur and Morena district, Kuno national park is located which was established in 1981. It covers approximately 345 Km2 areas and Karahal tahseel of this district is mainly located near to this park therefore it is one of the diversified districts in case of biodiversity.
