Abstract

Microorganisms are the most important sources for production of enzyme especially bacteria which have the ability to synthesis gelatinase enzyme has been screened and isolated from Pichavaram mangrove forest soil. This enzyme is capable of degrading gelatin and collagen proteins. The organism was isolated from the mangrove sediments; the genomic DNA was extracted, amplified by 785F and 907R primers, sequenced and identified. Gelatinase producing organism was identified as Bacillus thuringiensis. This organism is also considered as a halotolerant (tolerates up to 14% NaCl concentration) and it could grow even at 0% (without) NaCl concentration. B.thuringiensis are able to produce gelatinase enzyme which degrades gelatin. Keywords: Amplification of rDNA, DNA sequencing, DNA, gelatinase, halophilicCite this ArticleM. Aarthi, P. Eswaran, M.
