Acute Toxicity and Behavioural Responses of Oligochaete Worm Tubifex tubifex Exposed to Pesticide Cartap Hydrochloride
Abstract: The present study was conducted to evaluate the acute toxicity in terms of 96h LC50 and behavioural responses of oligochaete worm Tubifex tubifex upon exposure to a thiocarbamate insecticide cartap hydrochloride. All experiments were conducted in a static bioassay system using increasing concentrations of insecticide for different exposure periods. The 24, 48, 72 and 96 h LC50 values of cartap hydrochloride to Tubifex tubifex were 0.045, 0.039, 0.023 and 0.0178 …

Evolution of Cancer Biomarker and its Therapeutic Drug
Abstract: The trend to develop personalized medicine in targeting the defective genes/proteins and its pathways have become a promising approach with a significant success rate seen so far. The causes of cancer vary from person to person. Mutation in a cancer-associated gene or causative gene such as EGFR, VEGF, mTOR etc will cause cancer and later metastasis but treatment has to be given by identifying the specific marker and targeting the …

In vitro Antiviral Chemical Treatment to BBTV-Infected Banana Cultures for Production of Virus-Free Plants
Abstract: Obtaining healthy plants from infected germplasm banana stocks is a major problem. Banana bunchy top virus (BBTV) is the most destructive pathogen for the banana crop. Production of virus-free plants is crucial for cultivation, germplasm conservation and their exchanges. In vitro shoot meristem culture is the most common method for producing disease-free planting material. However, BBTV can multiply with in vitro cultures too. Therefore, for eliminating BBTV, the shoot-tip culture …

Status of extra-limits migrating avifauna and their stopover in the Gulf of Kachchh, Gujarat
Abstract: Migratory species, often receive special attention, nationally and internationally, for conservation. A large number of migratory birds regularly visit the Indian subcontinent especially during winter season. The Gulf of Kachchh (GoK) is one of the destinations of migratory birds under Central Asian Flyway, and existence of diverse habitats resulted into occurrence of a significant number of migratory species. In the present study, the entire region of the GoK was explored …

First record of isolation of hemolymph and identification of hemocytes in a Cyclopoid Copepod
Abstract: Based on the literature review done it has been noted that it is the first report of observation and identification of hemocytes from Cyclopoid Copepod. The hemolymph sample was taken by a preliminary standard method and hemocytes were isolated and identified under light microcopy using eosin stain. The hemocytes observed were clarified based on the presence or absence and relative size of cytoplasmic granules. Three types of hemocytes were observed …

Sources, Levels and Carcinogenic Potential of Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons in the Environment: A Short Review
Abstract: Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are the organic compounds that constitute a class of aromatic hydrocarbons known to be cancer causing agents. In the recent years an increased attention towards their sources and levels in the environments has been observed, mainly because of the elevated levels of some highly carcinogenic or mutagenic PAHs. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized 16 PAHs (EPA-PAH) as priority pollutants. Eight from these 16 PAHs …

Abstract: Microorganisms are the most important sources for production of enzyme especially bacteria which have the ability to synthesis gelatinase enzyme has been screened and isolated from Pichavaram mangrove forest soil. This enzyme is capable of degrading gelatin and collagen proteins. The organism was isolated from the mangrove sediments; the genomic DNA was extracted, amplified by 785F and 907R primers, sequenced and identified. Gelatinase producing organism was identified as Bacillus thuringiensis. …
