Abstract

The investigation focused on optimizing a gastric floating drug delivery system (GFDDS) for Ibuprofen tablets. It employed polymers like HPMC K4M and Carbopol 940 to improve Ibuprofen's bioavailability and therapeutic effectiveness. GFDDS, with lower bulk density than gastric fluids, remains buoyant in the stomach, extending gastric residence time. Compatibility assessments, via DSC analysis, indicated harmony between the polymers used, with no observed interaction between the polymer and the drug. The study aimed to formulate and characterize sustained-release floating tablets of Ibuprofen, utilizing HPMCK4M and Carbopol 940 as the selected polymers. Through this method, researchers sought to enhance drug delivery, ensuring sustained release and prolonged residence in the stomach for improved therapeutic outcomes. The incorporation of these polymers in the formulation aimed to address challenges associated with conventional drug delivery systems, potentially offering a more effective means of administering Ibuprofen. This investigation underscores the importance of tailored drug delivery systems in optimizing drug performance and enhancing patient outcomes, particularly in cases where sustained release and prolonged gastric residence are advantageous.
