Acute and Chronic Toxicity of Fluoride and Aluminum on Plant and Animal Models
Abstract: Ecotoxicological studies revealed aluminum (Al2SO4. 24 H2O) to be more toxic than fluoride (NaF) on a battery of test organisms (EC/LC50 of Al = 0.308 1.46 ppm; F = 116.6 232.8 ppm). During chronic exposure (Al = 3 ppm, F = 10 ppm for 60 90 days), there was reduction in growth parameters of organisms at different trophic levels in a food chain such as producers {dry weights (6.7 29.0) …

Assessment of Exposure to and Effect of Organochlorine Pesticides on Birds in India
Abstract: Effects of pesticides on birds have been well documented in many European and North American countries. Although we have some information on the levels of persistent environmental contaminants in many species of birds in India, due to lack of adequate data, we are unable to make any direct correlation with the reported population decline. Of all the birds, levels of DDT, HCH and dieldrin recorded in some of the species …

Evaluation of Metal Pollution in Wetlands Using Fish as an Indicator
Abstract: The current study has attempted to document the heavy metal pollution in wetlands using fish as an indicator. Heavy metals are one of the most toxic, persistent and widespread groups of contaminants in aquatic systems. Their effects may often occur and remain unrecognized at the individual level but slowly, over a period of time, show up at a population level. Over a few decades globally there has been growing interest …

Hepatoprotective Efficiency of Nigella sativa L. Extract on D-Galactosamine Induced Toxicity
Abstract: The Protective role of Nigella Sativa L. alcoholic extract (NSE) was investigated on D-Galactosamine (DGalN) induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Twenty four adult wistar albino rats were divided into four groups viz Control, D-Galatosamine induced hepatotoxicity, Nigella sativa alcoholic extract and Nigella Sativa alcoholic extract pretreatment prior to the administration of D-Galactosamine. After treatment, the rats were sacrificed, blood and liver samples were collected for determination of Serum Aspartate transaminase (AST), …

Histotoxicity of Acid Orange 7 on organs of Fresh water fish Labeo rohita
Abstract: The present paper reports the histotoxic effects of Acid Orange 7, an azo dye on the tissues viz. gill, kidney and liver in major carp, Labeo rohita, fingerlings. The sublethal concentrations of the dye are responsible for the histopathological alterations in the target tissues. In the gills hyperplasia, epithelial lifting, hooked secondary gill lamellae, haemorrhage in the primary gill lamellae and erosion of secondary gill lamellae were seen. The kidney …

Soil Adsorption Study of Thiram on Four Indian Soils by Extractive Spectrophotometry
Abstract: Concern about the environmental impact of an extensive use of pesticides has prompted research into the environmental fate of these agents which is strongly influenced by the interactions between the pesticides and soil. With a view to studying the fate of thiram fungicide in soil and the extent of surface and groundwater contamination, the soil-adsorption of thiram on four Indian soils of different soil characteristics has been studied by an …

Study of Nickel Toxicity and Recovery in Freshwater Major Carp Catla catla
Abstract: The present work was carried out to examine the hazardous effects of chronic intoxication of nickel ions in Catla catla, a fresh water major carp. Fingerlings were exposed to sublethal concentrations of nickel sulphate solution (5 ppm and 10 ppm) for 21 days and histotoxicity in liver, brain and intestine was studied periodically. Normal architecture of hepatocytes was disrupted. The histopathological manifestations observed in the liver were congestion of hepatocytes, …
