A study on acute toxicity of a herbicide Fenoxaprop-P-Ethyl on Heteropneustes fossilis along with their behavioural changes
Abstract: AbstractThis study was made to assess the acute toxic effects of fenoxaprop-p-ethyl (herbicide used in agriculture) to singhi fish (Heteropneustes fossilis) along with the changes in their behaviour during the test. The 24, 48, 72 and 96 hour LC50 values of fenoxaprop-p-ethyl to Hetropneustes fossilis are made with the concentration of 0.45, 0.72, 1.08, 1.44, 1.8, 2.7, 3.06, 3.6 mg/l. The mortality rate of Heteropneustes fossilis varied significantly (p<0.05) with …

Pollen Biology and Stigma Receptivity in Nymphoides indica (L.) O. Kuntze (Menyanthaceae)
Abstract: AbstractNymphoides indica (L.) O. Kuntze an emergent aquatic plant of Menyanthaceae, commonly called ‘floating hearts” is bisexual, hypogynous and distylous (Two types of style – long style and short style) with 4 – 8 sepals and petals. Stamens correspond to the number of petals. The present study deals with phenology, pollen biology and stigma receptivity of N. indica. The pollen grains are yellow, medium, monad, triangular, heteropolar, radially symmetric, parasyncolpate …

Seasonal variation of the physicochemical quality of water of selected habitats of Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary, Gujarat, India
Abstract: AbstractKhijadiya Bird Sanctuary is a well-known wetland in Jamnagar district of Gujarat, India, recognised for its rich avifaunal and aquatic biodiversity. The sanctuary is one of its kind exhibiting a mosaic of unique habitats with fresh water on one side and salt pans on other side. As the wetland type and morphology are highly variable documentation of such wetlands are essential. There have been only a few studies on seasonal …

Sodium benzoate induced reproductive and metabolic changes in Anabas testudineus (Bloch, 1792)
Abstract: AbstractSodium benzoate is an effective antimicrobial agent used as a food preservative, but recently gained attention as the chemical toxicant. The present study investigated sodium benzoate induced male reproductive toxicity and metabolic changes at100 mg/ L concentration in the freshwater fish, Anabas testudineus. Sodium benzoate did not alter the weight of fish but increased the secretion of mucous as the primary defensive mechanism. Reduction in the absolute and relative weights …

Diversity and Distribution Study of Marine Macro Algae in Three Selected Inshore Reef Areas of Saurashtra Coast, Gujarat
Abstract: AbstractA study on diversity and distribution of marine macroalgae in three selected inshore reef areas viz., Veraval, Sutrapada and Chorwad of Saurashtra coast of Gujarat state was conducted during 2016-2017. A total of 83 taxa belonging to 44 genera and 30 family representing Chlorophyta (28 taxa), Ochrophyta (18 taxa) and Rhodophyta (37 taxa) were recorded from these sampling sites during the study. Species wise, the highest number of seaweeds was …

Studies on the Impact of Automobile Exhaust Emissions (From Vehicles using Diesel and Petrol) on Chlorophyll Content and Leaf Biomass of Lemon
Abstract: AbstractAir quality is getting poor day by day due to air pollution. Automobile exhaust pipe emission has been a major contributor to the problem of air pollution in the present scenario. This study was aimed for observing the effects of exhaust pipe emissions on chlorophyll, which is the most important plant pigment. Lemon plants were given exposure to exhaust emissions from vehicles using fuel types in open top chambers for …

Adsorption of Textile Dye Effluent through Fresh Water Macroalga
Abstract: Abstract Dyes and pigments represent chronic ecological problems as they are toxic and carcinogenic. Purging of dyes from the coloured waste effluents is a crucial problem. Biosorption through algal biomass as a fruitful and cheap process for the purging of dyes from industrial effluents. In the present study, biosorption of red dye textile effluent has been carried out using different doses of the dried biomass of Chara sp. High dose …
