A Critical Evaluation of Mercury Contamination in Groundwater of Punjab
Abstract: Groundwater in Punjab State has been over-exploited for irrigation purposes during the last few decades. As a consequence, it has been contaminated with heavy metals including Mercury, which is highly toxic for human health. The permissible limit for Mercury in groundwater is 0.001 mg/L (1ppb). Mercury concentration in groundwater has been estimated using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) which is calibrated using a standard protocol. Ferozepur district in Punjab …

Analysis of Total Hardness of Municipality Water of Amritsar City, Punjab
Abstract: The lather not produced while using soap which indicates hardness of water. Our life is sustenance with water which is one of the most primary needs for life. Water is mostly used for drinking, bathing, sanitary, washing, irrigation and agriculture. However water having high amount of hardness is considered to be the major threat to human health. The literature survey reports that 2.6 % water resources as fresh in the …

Biocomposite Using Cellulosic Waste Material and Eggshell for Its Application in the Reduction of Water Pollution
Abstract: This study explores the synthesis and application of a novel biocomposite derived from cellulosic waste material and eggshells for mitigating water pollution. Biocomposite production and application are notable breakthroughs in the replacement of nonbiodegradable, petroleum-based materials. Biowaste resulting from food processing has long been one of the most unutilized sources from which value-added products can be produced. Extracting valuable elements from it reduces trash disposal problems while also providing useful …

Mining of the River Bed and Environmental Consequences
Abstract: Due to tremendous rate of demand, by the year 2050, the world is expected to run out of construction grade sand. Construction-grade sand is found in aquatic environments, such as rivers and is a provisioning ecosystem service. Even under controlled circumstances, the practice of extracting the sand from the riverbed and river-banks impacts the environment. Unfortunately, many countries lack sand mining regulation policies and in combination with a high demand, …

A Study on the Application of Chitosan-based Composite in the Remediation of Water Pollution
Abstract: Several uses for membrane separation have been developed including microfiltration, ultrafiltration, and nanofiltration processes in the fields of biomedicine, food, and water purification. Removing agro-industrial waste is a major problem in developing nations. One polysaccharide polymer is cellulose. In this review, the history, structure, global production, and extraction of cellulose from various trees are examined. Chitosan, a biopolymer that resembles cellulose chemically, is a naturally occurring fiber that is obtained …
