Nondestructive Technique in Study of Purolite NRW-5010 and Duolite A-638 Anion Exchange Resins
Abstract: The present paper is one of the interesting applications of radioactive isotopes in nondestructive technique for performance evaluation of anion exchange resins Purolite NRW-5010 and Duolite A-638. The radioactive isotopes 131I and 82Br were used to trace the kinetics of ion-isotopic exchange reactions taking place between the resin surface and external ionic solution. It was observed that for bromide ion-isotopic exchange reaction at 35.0°C, when the concentration of bromide ions …

Simplified Models for Some Thermodynamic Properties of Saturated Water in a Pressurized Water Reactor
Abstract: The properties of water and steam in a pressurized water reactor (PWR) need constant monitoring to understand what goes on in the PWR. Such properties include the thermodynamic properties, namely, specific volume, specific enthalpy, specific entropy and specific heat. This work is focused on calculating these properties of saturated water by using a simplified model within the temperature range that is applicable to PWR. The model parameters for each property …

Thermal-hydraulic Safety Assessment of a Miniature Neutron Source Reactor
Abstract: The main objective of this study is to assess the thermal-hydraulic safety capability of the PLTEMP/ANL v 4.0 in analyzing Ghana Research Reactor-1 (GHARR-1), with vertical fuel rods cooled by natural convection, operating at a nominal power (30 kW) with sufficient safety margins. The neutronic analysis of the core was performed using MCNP X code, where parameters of interest were the power distributions and the power peaking factors. The thermal-hydraulic …

Tracer Diffusion of 54Mn and 60Co in SS 316 LN in Presence of Sodium
Abstract: The diffusivity of cobalt and manganese in cold-worked and vacuum-annealed AISI type. SS 316 LN in presence of sodium in the temperature range 773–873 K was measured by the standard tracer technique. In vacuum-annealed SS 316 LN specimens, the penetration depth of cobalt was only up to 2–5 μm from the surface even after diffusion annealing for a long duration of ~ 5000 h in the temperature range from 823 …
