This paper presents an experimental evaluation and performance comparison of window air-conditioning system with R-410A and R32 and to compare with HCFC-22 refrigerant. The base line test is performed with 2 “Ton of Refrigeration” (TR) capacities air conditioner, with evaporator temperature of 7.2 °C and condenser temperature of 54.4 °C. The coefficient of performance (COP) of the refrigerants R32, R22 and R410A are 3.81, 3.15 and 2.17 respectively simulated; it is observed that for the same condenser and evaporator temperatures the R32 COP is 36% higher with R410A. The operating pressure is an important parameter in air-conditioning system, at evaporator temperature of −10˚C and condenser temperature of 35 °C the pressure ratios for R22, R410A and R32 are 3.81, 3.72 and 3.75. The environmental issues are much more important, R22 is having ozone layer depletion potential 0.05 and global warming effect 1700, R410 global warming potential 2100. R32 has specific advantages as it has zero ozone depletion potential and low global warming potential. Keywords: HCFCs, R32, R410, Refrigeration, Ton of Refrigeration, COP
