Abstract

Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) are essential for moving on the right track towards trying to achieve the future of sustainable transport by playing the following roles of increasing efficiency and reduction in emissions. Partner commodity materials contribute to this shift because of their features like lightweight and high-stiffness and are exemplified by polymer composites. These materials improve the HEV performance by enabling weight reduction of the vehicle, thus leading to better fuel economy, and more electric-only operation. This paper seeks to discuss the most recent developments in polymer composites and their usage in HEVs.; it discusses new technical advances, such as composite ones as well as manufacturing technologies impacts on vehicles’ design and performance. The paper also explores the current market factors describing key trends and opportunities in the context of growing environmental legislation and consumers’ preferences for green vehicles. In addition, it looks at possible future trends in polymer composites – technologies and research areas that are yet to be unveiled. The overall goal of this paper is to support the understanding of technical characteristics and current and future market trends and research opportunities of polymer composites within automotive systems to consider them as a key element the future HEVs.
