Young Adult’s Experiences of Lifestyle Risk and Health Promotion: A Qualitative Study

Abstract

Background: The transition from adolescence to emerging adulthood (18-24 years) is a life-history stage towards human maturation. Addressing the transitional experiences of young adults will pave the way for formulating multilevel health interventional strategies.

Aim: To explore the experiences of a group of young adult’s lifestyle risks and their health promoting lifestyle practices.

Methods: Semi-structured interviews were carried out with six young adults exhibiting lifestyle-related health risks. The data analysis was conducted using Colaizzi's method.

Findings: The young adults experienced bothering lifestyle, psychological, and social challenges that impede health promotion and expressed their desired behavioral changes towards health restoration.

Conclusion: Experiences of lifestyle related health risk is associated with their behavioral choices and support system.
