Anaphylaxis: Pathophysiology, Risk Factors, and Clinical ManagementBy P.C Kathuria, Manisha Rai
Abstract: Anaphylaxis is a syndrome characterized by broncho-constriction, vasodilatation, and hypovolemia, potentially fatal exposure to known or unknown antigens. It can be an immune-mediated (IgE & non-IgE) disease. Immunoglobulin G (IgG), complement related (C3a/C5a), bradykinin, leukotrienes, prostaglandin E2, and ligands of certain G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR) can directly activate mast cells, basophils, eosinophils, neutrophils, endothelial cells and smooth muscles. Serum tryptase level during episodes of anaphylaxis, skin test, and basophil activation …

Climate Change and Respiratory AllergyBy P.C Kathuria, Manisha Rai
Abstract: Climate change, a global issue, directly and indirectly impacts human health while posing a significant threat to animals and ecosystems. As part of the exposome, it influences various factors like seasonality, production, and the distribution of airborne allergens due to rising carbon dioxide levels and temperatures. These environmental changes also contribute to increased epithelial permeability, microbial imbalances, and heightened allergic reactions to pollen and fungal spores. Earth’s average surface temperature, …

Food Allergy-practical ApproachBy P.C Kathuria, Manisha Rai
Abstract: There is a consistent increase in prevalence of food allergy (FA). The diagnosis of FA is based on thorough history supported by positive skin test, specific IgE (extract-and component-based), Basophil activation test (BAT) to reduce the need for Oral food challenge (OFC). OFC procedures may be conducted in cases of diagnostic uncertainty or to assess the presence or development of tolerance. Effective management of food allergy involves a comprehensive three-pronged …
