Biopolymer Degradation and Structure–Property Relationships in Ageing: A Polymer Science Perspective
Abstract: Ageing, as viewed from the polymer sciences perspective, is perceived as the gradual modification of the structure-property-function interrelationship of biopolymers such as proteins, polysaccharides, nucleic acids and their molecular aggregates. Such changes include structural organization, mechanical behavior, physicochemical stability and functional effectiveness. Ageing is an inevitable multifactorial polymeric process. Due to the growing aging population globally, more age-associated complications emerge, which are correlated with the molecular degeneration of biopolymeric complexes. …

Quantitative Image-Based Assessment of Degradation Patterns in Polymer-Based Medical Implants
Abstract: Polymer-based medical devices are widely used in clinical practice, where long-term material degradation can compromise performance and patient safety. Traditional polymer degradation studies predominantly rely on laboratory-based experiments, which often fail to capture real-world operational and usage conditions. In this study, a multimodal, data-driven framework is proposed for the quantitative assessment of degradation patterns in polymer-based medical devices using publicly available clinical failure data. Structured operational parameters, including cumulative usage …

In Vivo Biocompatibility and Interfacial Stability of Thermoplastic Polyurethanes and Nanofilled Resin Composites: A Bioanalytical Study of Polymer-Host Interactions Under Dynamic Loading
Abstract: The widespread application of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) and nanofilled resin composites in biomedical devices requires rigorous assessment of their biocompatibility under mechanical stress. While nanofilled composites utilize filler particles (<100 nm) to enhance surface properties and wear resistance, the biological response to these materials in a hydrolytic, enzymatic environment remains a critical area of investigation. Objective: To analyze the in vivo bio-molecular response at the interface of TPU aligners and …

Catalytic Degradation of Polymers Using Metal Oxides (Zno, Cuo): A Sustainable Approach
Abstract: The growing accumulation of synthetic polymeric waste, especially plastics, has become one of the most pressing environmental challenges due to their non-biodegradable nature and long-lasting presence in ecosystems. This issue is compounded by the widespread use of plastic materials in various industries, resulting in vast amounts of plastic waste that contribute to environmental pollution, clog waterways, and pose threats to wildlife. As global plastic production continues to rise, the need …
