Pressure Swing Adsorption Process for Reduction of Argon-41 Release from Nuclear Reactor Exhaust Systems
Abstract: In several nuclear reactors, huge quantity of air (in the order of 10,000 cmh) is continuously passed to cool the calandria vault. This results in high radiation field due to argon-41. It is necessary to isolate and recover argon from these environments, which can bring down the activity release to the atmosphere in attaining ALARA principle. Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technique has been employed by combining molecular sieves 5A (MS5A) …

Pressure Swing Adsorption Technique for Separation and Containment of Argon-41
Abstract: Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Air is used as a coolant in several nuclear facilities especially in the Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs). When air interacts with the neutron field, the Argon-40 present (0.93%) in the air gets neutron-activated to form Argon-41which is a beta and gamma emitter, with a half-life period of 1.83 h. Argon-41 is a major radioactive effluent in nuclear reactors accounting for a larger percentage …
