A Machine Vision Approach for Geofence-based Adaptive Friction Modulation in Connected Semi-autonomous Vehicles
Abstract: Safeguarding vulnerable road user (VRU) safety necessitates fail-safes preventing collisions from semi-autonomous vehicles. Geofencing allows service-zones definition but introduces friction discouraging adoption. This paper details an onboard vision model detecting VRUs by helmet status, triggering reactionary neuro-modulations of vehicle maneuverability. The architecture encompasses a YOLOv3 detector determining pedestrian/bicyclist crossing intent through path extrapolations, calibrated using lidar-fusion correcting distance estimates. The subsequent velocity governor adapts acceleration profiles based on predicted exposure …

Automatic Image Description Generation Using Deep Learning Techniques
Abstract: Automatic Image Description Generation methods are extremely useful for image retrieval, search and organization. Previous approaches either use the existing labelled dataset to compose sentences or compose a new description for the test image by exploiting available descriptions of the training images. In practice these methods have limited accuracy, hence if the most important objects in an image cannot be identified, then they cannot generate valid description. Another difficulty lies …

Machine Learning Based Early Cataract Detection: A Predictive Modeling Approach
Abstract: Cataracts, characterized by dense cloudy areas in the eye’s lens, afflict more than 50% of elderly individuals, leading to impaired vision and potential blindness. Detecting cataracts at an early stage is crucial to facilitate simpler treatments, as neglecting the condition may necessitate complex eye surgery. To address this issue, we are creating a predictive system that identifies cataract disease by analyzing user-provided eye features. To achieve this, we leverage OpenCV, …
