Mechanical Properties, Viscoelastic and Water Absorption Properties of Biocarbon-Reinforced Composites
Abstract: Biocarbon-reinforced polymer composites have emerged as a sustainable alternative to conventional composites, combining environmental benefits with promising material properties. This study explores the effect of varying biocarbon content (0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% by weight) on the mechanical, viscoelastic, and water absorption properties of a polypropylene (PP) matrix. Tensile strength tests reveal that incorporating 10% biocarbon yields the highest strength at 35 MPa, attributed to enhanced interfacial bonding. However, at …

Dynamic Vibration and Damping Analysis of Sustainable Nano-Reinforced Polymer Composite Elements for Vehicle Suspension Applications
Abstract: This paper presents an analytical investigation into the dynamic vibration characteristics of nano-reinforced polymer composite elements intended for vehicle suspension applications. A single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) quarter-car model is employed to derive fundamental expressions for natural frequency, damping ratio, logarithmic decrement, and displacement transmissibility. The primary contribution lies in establishing explicit analytical linkages between material-level viscoelastic properties specifically storage modulus and loss modulus and system-level suspension parameters including stiffness and damping coefficients. …

Effect of Carbonyl Iron Particle Concentration on The Printability and Stiffness of Magnetorheological Elastomer Filaments
Abstract: Magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) are increasingly valued for their field-responsive mechanical properties, making them ideal for adaptive components in automotive, aerospace, and vibration control systems. However, conventional mould-based fabrication methods limit design flexibility, produce excess material waste, and are unsuitable for complex or customized geometries caused challenges that have hindered broader industrial adoption. Although 3D printing offers a compelling alternative, research on printable MRE filaments remains limited, particularly regarding how carbonyl …

Viscoelastic Behavior, Interfacial Mechanics, and Reliability of Polymer Interlayers in Laminated Glass Composites: A Comprehensive Review
Abstract: The laminated glass systems are regarded as hybrid polymer–glass composites where the viscoelastic behavior of polymer interlayers mostly controls mechanical response. These interlayers (polyvinyl butyral (PVB), ionoplast, ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), etc.) have time-, temperature- and rate-dependent properties which significantly affect shear transfer, energy dissipation, and fracture resistance. But the baseline polymer-relevant processes at the molecular and interfacial level are to a large extent unknown [1]. This review provides a materials-focused …

Temperature-Dependent Viscoelastic Response of Magnetorheological Grease with Varying Particle Shapes
Abstract: This study examines the effect of temperatures on the magnetic and rheological properties of magnetorheological greases (MRGs) comprised of different particle shapes, under oscillatory shear mode test. Two samples were prepared with 70 wt.% flake-shaped electrolytic iron particles (EIP) and spherical carbonyl iron particles (CIP) which dispersed in 30 wt.% lithium-based grease, separately. Respective to magnetic properties test, the vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) revealed that MRG-EIP exhibited 11.4% higher magnetic …

Modelling of The Viscoelastic Composite Curved Panel for The Time Domain Analysis Using TTBDF, β1 / β2−Bathe and Newmark Method
Abstract: Viscoelastic materials are extensively used in structures, especially thin-walled structures, for damping. The accurate modelling of the time domain dynamics of the viscoelastic material is essential for appropriately capturing the damping of the viscoelastic material. Various implicit and explicit time integration schemes are available to evaluate time domain response. However, the rightness of the implementation of the time integration scheme to the viscoelastic material model is very essential. In this …

Effects of Sub-Zero Temperatures on the Viscoelastic Properties of Magnetorheological Elastomer
Abstract: Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are smart materials capable of tuneable stiffness and damping under applied magnetic fields. This renders the material as a promising candidate for adaptive vibration control and semi-active engineering applications. While their behaviour at elevated temperatures has been widely explored, limited attention has been given to their performance under sub-zero conditions, which are critical for cold-environment applications. As this has become an important concern, the study investigates the …

Sustainable Epoxy Composites Enhanced by Cellulose Nanocrystals for Structural and Thermal Applications
Abstract: This study presents the advancement and behaviour analysis of sustainable nanocomposites reinforced with cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), a biodegradable and high-aspect-ratio nanofiller derived from microcrystalline cellulose. CNCs were incorporated into a bisphenol-A-based epoxy matrix at varying concentrations (0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 wt%) to assess their influence on mechanical, thermal, and viscoelastic properties. The tensile strength of the composites increased significantly, from 45 MPa for neat epoxy to 65 MPa …

Integrative Machine Learning Approaches for Predicting the Rheological Behaviour of Soft Magnetorheological Elastomers
Abstract: Magnetorheological Elastomers (MREs) are advanced composite materials known for their ability to alter mechanical properties under external magnetic fields, making them highly valuable in adaptive damping systems, vibration control, and smart devices. The accurate prediction of rheological behavior in soft MREs remains a significant challenge due to the complex interplay between material composition and magnetic fields. To address this challenge, this study employs a multi-pronged approach that integrates traditional material …
