Study of Physical and Chemical Properties of Heavy Waxy Crude Oil from Cambay Basin Using Rheometer and Cross-Polar Microscope
Abstract: Production of heavy crude is quite difficult as the pressure drops from reservoir to production facility are quite large. This often leads to the precipitation and deposition of common organic solids (paraffin). These solids may deposit on surfaces, collect in low-energy regions or increase the effective viscosity of the flowing fluid. The net effect is an increase in pressure drop for a given rate through reduction in flowing area or …

Effect of Pigment Particle Size of Offset Inks on Printability
Abstract: The pigment is the most expensive part of printing inks. The process of making ink involves physical processes that require even distribution of pigments in the surrounding vehicle. This process is known as "Dispersion". The quality of the final dispersion decides print parameters like dot gain, density, print contrast, and gloss. In this work, the aim was to study how the ink behaves on the printing press based on the …

Nanocomposites of Polyethylene-Closite 20A: Preparation and Characteristics
Abstract: Low-density polyethylene/closite 20A nanocomposites with different organoclay contents were made in the current study by a melt mixing technique with two different compatibilizers of varying contents: low molecular weight oxidized polyethylene and low molecular weight trimethoxysilyl modified polybutadiene. The inclusion of compatibilizers and concentrations of organoclay were analyzed in relation to the mechanical and thermal properties of the nanocomposites. The dispersibility of the silicate clay in the nanocomposites was investigated …

Optimization of Direct Ink Writing Process Parameters for Liquid Silicone Rubber/TiO2 Composite Ink
Abstract: The purpose of this research is to develop and optimize the Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR)/Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) composite inks in Direct Ink Writing (DIW)-based 3D printing systems. The primary research objective was to use enhancement of mechanical, rheological, and dielectric characteristics of LSR using TiO₂ reinforcement but still retain extrusion stability and dimensional consistency. TiO₂ content (0, 5, 10, and 15 wt%) and catalyst and glycerol ratios were regulated and …

Simultaneous Improvement of Mechanical Properties and Thermal Stability of Polyvinyl Chloride Nanocomposite by Magnesium Aluminum-Layered Double Hydroxide
Abstract: The application of nanoclays in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is limited as the organic modifier of conventional nanoclays can degrade PVC. Using usual nanoclays could reduce thermal stability due to the catalytic effects on PVC degradation, so the main chalenge is to find suitable nanoclay for PVC. The effects of two nanoclays, MgAl-layered double hydroxide and alkylammonium-modified montmorillonite, were studied on the mechanical properties of PVC nanocomposites. Dioctyl phthalate (DOP)-plasticized PVC …

The Rheological Effect of SiO2 Nanoparticles Additives for NBR/CR Blends
Abstract: The rheological alteration of NBR/CR after adding various nano-quantities of silicon oxide (0–50) wt.% was studied. The rheological properties that were tested are viscosity, scorch time, cure time and max torque. Oscillating disk rheometer was used for measuring the above properties. The experimental results have shown that the silicon oxide additives have a good effect on viscosity and max torque during vulcanization, but at the same time the scorch and …

Investigation of Local Weighting Materials as a Substitute To Barite In Drilling Mud Formulation
Abstract: Weighting materials are important components needed to increase the density of drilling mud in order to provide enough hydrostatic pressure to balance abnormalpore pressures. In Nigeria, millions of dollars are spent annually in importing barite to serve this purpose. However, there exists large reserves of weighting materials such as barite, hematite, dolomite, calcite, ilmenite in Nigeria hence the need to investigate the suitability of these materials as substitute for imported …

Rheology and Flow Properties of Fracturing Gels in Straight and Coiled Tubing
Abstract: This study involves experimental investigation of rheological and hydraulic characteristics of aqueous based polymeric and surfactant fluids in straight and coiled tubing. The fluids matrix includes guar, HPG, PHPA, welan, xanthan, and surfactant. Bohlin rheometer was used to evaluate rheological and viscoelastic characteristics. For hydraulic characteristics, small- and large-scale flow loops were used. It is observed that all fluids exhibit comparable non-Newtonian behavior and improved viscous and elastic properties. Among …
