How do Polymer-derived Implants Influence Patient-Reported Outcomes (PRO) in Cardiovascular and Orthopaedic Procedures
Abstract: Implants derived from polymers have surfaced as adaptable substitutes for conventional metallic devices in cardiovascular and orthopedic treatments because of their adjustable mechanical characteristics, biocompatibility, radiolucency, and ability for surface alteration. This systematic review assesses the impact of polymer-based implants such as PEEK, UHMWPE, bioresorbable polymer scaffolds, and drug-eluting systems on outcomes reported by patients (PROs). Findings from 42 qualifying studies show overall positive impacts on pain alleviation, functional recovery, …

A Study to Assess the Knowledge and Practice of Self-Care Management Among Post-Operative Orthopaedic Patients in Selected Hospitals at K.G.F
Abstract: This study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and practice regarding self-care management among post-operative orthopedic patients using a non-experimental descriptive research design. A total of 60 post-operative orthopedic patients were selected through purposive sampling from a hospital in Kolar Gold Fields. Data were collected using a standardized checklist developed by Printz, Foster Kent, O’Leary, Robin, and Foster (1989), followed by an assessment of patients’ knowledge and practice related …

Image-Based Evaluation of Implant Tissue Interface Integrity in Polymer Orthopaedic Devices
Abstract: Polymer orthopedic implants offer radiolucency and mechanical compatibility with bone, but long-term success depends on maintaining a stable implant–tissue interface. Routine imaging is widely available for follow-up, yet interface integrity is commonly judged qualitatively, limiting early detection of fixation compromise and reducing comparability across devices and time points. This work presents an image-based methodology to quantify interface integrity by extracting interpretable interface descriptors from a standardized interface belt around the …

Impact of Back Massage on Anxiety Levels in Patients Undergoing Orthopedic Surgery
Abstract: Objectives: The objective of the study was to assess the pre- and post-test levels of anxiety in patients who underwent orthopaedic surgery in both the experimental and control groups, to evaluate the effectiveness of back massage in reducing anxiety among patients in the experimental group, and to explore the association between anxiety levels and selected demographic variables in these patients. Research approach: The aim of the study was to evaluate …

TPLO-M: A Dual-Purpose Solution for CCL and MPL in Dogs
Abstract: Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) rupture and Medial Patellar Luxation (MPL) are common orthopedic conditions affecting the canine stifle joint, particularly in small and toy breeds and larger athletic dogs. When these conditions occur together, they pose a significant surgical challenge due to the combined biomechanical abnormalities. Traditional surgical approaches, such as Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) for CCL insufficiency and corrective procedures for MPL, do not adequately address both conditions …

Revolutionizing Knee Osteoarthritis Diagnosis: Unleashing the Potential of Vision Transformers
Abstract: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common kind of arthritis. By analysing data from both sides of the knee joints, radiologists use the Kellgren–Lawrence (KL) grading system to determine the severity of osteoarthritis (OA). The need for knee arthroplasties has increased as a result of this. Recently, there have been proposals for computer-assisted techniques to improve the precision of OA diagnosis. Choosing between conservative and surgical treatment options for knee osteoarthritis …

Mechanical and Physicochemical Characteristics of Nano-Hydroxyapatite Polymer Composites
Abstract: This study focuses on the development and characterization of nano-hydroxyapatite (nHAp)-reinforced poly (lactic acid) (PLA) composites for biomedical applications. The composites, prepared with varying nHAp content (5–25 wt%), were evaluated for their mechanical and physicochemical properties, including tensile strength, Young’s modulus, elongation at break, thermal stability, hydrophilicity, and crystallinity. Results revealed that tensile strength increased significantly with the incorporation of nHAp, reaching a peak of 62 MPa at 15 wt%, …

Blood Cell Saver Machine
Abstract: Intraoperative Cell Salvage (ICS) is a crucial technique in modern surgical practice aimed at minimizing the need for allogeneic blood transfusions. By collecting, filtering, washing, and re-infusing a patient’s own blood lost during surgery, ICS provides a safer and cost-effective alternative to donor transfusion, reducing the risk of transfusion-related infections and immunologic reactions. Initially conceptualized in the early 19th century, ICS technology evolved significantly with the introduction of the Cell …
