Impact of Urbanization on Biodiversity Hotspot: A Case of Bhubaneswar City
Abstract: Urbanization has contributed to pollution and generation of waste heat leading to changes in the urban heat balance thereby influencing its microclimate. Urban regions confront heightened heat wave conditions due to urban heat island (UHI) impact, which is a result of anthropogenic effects on both surface and atmospheric temperature patterns relative to the natural environment. The investigation was carried out in a 20-km radius around the city of Bhubaneswar. The …

Remote Sensing and GIS-Based Approaches for Soil Salinization Assessment: A Comprehensive Review
Abstract: Soil salinization, a critical environmental challenge, significantly impacts land productivity, agricultural yields, and contributes to desertification, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. Early detection and effective management of soil salinity are essential for sustainable agriculture and land management. Remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS) have emerged as indispensable tools for mapping, monitoring, and analyzing soil salinity over vast areas. RS provides multi-temporal and multi-spectral data that helps identify …

A Gamified Digital Platform for Sustainable Farming Practices: Simulation, Statistical Analysis, and Water Resource Management Implications
Abstract: Sustainable farming practices play a critical role in enhancing agricultural water use efficiency, conserving limited water resources, and ensuring long-term food security under increasing environmental and climatic pressures. Despite their importance, farmer participation in conventional agricultural extension and training programs remains limited due to low engagement and a lack of sustained motivation. To address this challenge, this study proposes a gamified digital decision-support platform aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural and …

Forecasting Climate-Driven Healthcare Demand in Agricultural Regions: A Multi-Modal AI Approach
Abstract: The rapidly increasing instability of world climatic regimes has made past meteorological thresholds irrelevant, especially in the agricultural areas where monetary stability and well-being of humans are closely intertwined with an environmental situation. The more the frequency of 1 in every 1000-year events, i.e., heatwaves and catastrophic flooding increase, the greater the rural healthcare systems are in crisis, i.e., unable to predict a surge in demand because of data scarcity, …

A Geospatial Analysis of Correlation Between Built-up Area and Vegetation Coverage using Google Earth Engine in Saint Martin Island, Bangladesh
Abstract: Background: This study explores the complex interconnection between expanding human settlements and fluctuating plant life on the island of Saint Martin, Bangladesh, utilizing cutting-edge geospatial techniques through the open-source Google Earth Engine platform. The rapid population boom in Bangladesh and tourism-fueled development on Saint Martin Island stir serious worries about their ecological consequences. Methods: Remote sensing data sourced from Landsat 5 TM and Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS satellites between 1991 and …

Assessment of Urban Heat Island Using Geospatial Technology: A Case of Titilagarh City, Odisha
Abstract: A phenomenon known as an urban heat island (UHI) occurs when temperatures in an urban area are greater than those in a nearby rural area. The main causes of this temperature differential are urbanization, human activity, and the construction of artificial infrastructure like buildings and roads in place of natural landscapes. Titilagarh, a city in Odisha, is often referred to as one of the hottest places in the state, making …

Integration of Multispectral Satellite data with Ensemble Machine Learning Models for Wetland Classification: a new Ramsar Site in Central India
Abstract: For biodiversity conservation, several wetlands in India have been classified as Ramsar sites, and Sirpur Lake is a recent addition to the list. The objective of this paper is to use Sentinel optical data with 10-meter resolution to prepare a robust and accurate classified map which will be crucial for further analysis. The data on thirteen spectral bands along with four essential spectral indices, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Normalized …

Seasonal Dynamics of Coastal Landscapes: A Critical Review Using Remote Sensing and GIS
Abstract: Coastal landscapes are among the most dynamic environments on Earth, undergoing continuous transformation due to both natural processes and anthropogenic activities. In India, particularly along the southern coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, shoreline morphology and sediment transport patterns are significantly influenced by seasonal monsoons, cyclones, storm surges, waves, tides, and changing river discharges. These factors contribute to varying rates of coastal erosion, accretion, inundation, and land- …

Remote Sensing and GIS-based Analysis of Land Surface Temperature Dynamics and Land Use Changes in Vijayawada, India
Abstract: The alteration of land use/land cover (LULC) has significant environmental consequences since it is strongly linked to long-lasting land degradation and leads to diverse environmental alterations. It is crucial to monitor the locations and distributions of changes in land use and land cover (LULC) to comprehend the connections between government actions, policy choices, and resulting LULC activities. Modern systems for protecting the environment and managing natural resources now depend heavily …
