Phase – Field Modeling of Brittle and Ductile Fracture Under Complex Loading Conditions
Abstract: Phase-field modeling has emerged as a powerful computational framework for predicting fracture behavior in engineering materials, offering a unified description of crack initiation, propagation, branching, and coalescence without the need for explicit crack tracking. This study presents an in-depth examination of phase-field modeling applied to both brittle and ductile fracture under complex loading conditions, including multiaxial stress states, cyclic loading, thermal gradients, and dynamic impact. The phase-field approach regularizes the …

Evaluation of T-stress using FEM in an Unsymmetrical Cracks Emanating from a Hole Placed Centrally in a Thin Plate
Abstract: Studying the impact of higher order terms of the William’s series expansion on fracture mechanics problems has received more attention in recent years. Research has demonstrated that the constant term T-stress has a significant impact on the stress and strain fields around the crack tip. In response to mixed mode (I/II) loading, a number of fracture criteria had been developed to characterize failure in linear elastic bodies. When evaluating the …

Impact of Polypropylene Fibres on the Properties of Concrete
Abstract: This review paper explores the effects of polypropylene fibres on the mechanical and structural properties of concrete. The integration of short, discontinuous fibres into plain concrete enhances its post-cracking behavior and overall performance, with notable improvements in tensile strength, fracture strength, toughness, impact resistance, and flexural strength. These fibres effectively control crack propagation, increase energy absorption, and improve durability under varying loading conditions. A comprehensive analysis of prior research highlights …

Characterization of Bamboo-Fiber Reinforced Geopolymer Composites
Abstract: In this project, we plan to produce and assess a new, eco-friendly composite made from geopolymer (from a combination of fly ash and GGBFS), strengthened with chemically treated bamboo fibres for retrofitting earthquake-resistant buildings. Geopolymer is produced by activating a mixture of fly ash and GGBFS with sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide solutions. We have produced and analyzed bamboo fibre-reinforced geopolymer composites as potential materials for seismic retrofitting of structures …
