Finite Element Modelling of Contact Stresses in Helical Gear Systems
Abstract: Helical gears are widely used in modern power‐transmission systems because of their high load‐carrying capacity, smooth meshing action, and increased overlapping of gear teeth. However, the design of helical gear pairs is constrained by contact stresses generated at the mating tooth surfaces, which can lead to surface fatigue (pitting), micro-cracking, and ultimately gear failure. Traditional analytical methods, such as those of the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) or International Organization …

Effect of Fillet Radius on Bending Stress in Helical Gear using FEA
Abstract: A well-optimized change in root fillet radius could greatly benefit helical gear operation by providing a smoother transmission with less impact and noise. The fillet area of the gear root is an area of extensive bending stress concentration. An increase in fillet radius for helical gears is considered to minimise the bending stress at the gear tooth's base. This paper develops appropriate models of various gear tooth profiles of the …

Gear-Related Stress Analysis and Comparison Between the Fem and Agma Standards
Abstract: In many different devices, gears enable the efficient transfer of motion and torque. They are an essential component of modern mechanical power transmission systems. It has been demonstrated that bending and surface contact stresses at the gear tooth are the primary causes of gear failure, despite their widespread use. Too much stress can lead to tooth wear, pitting, or breakage, which can ultimately reduce the operating life and reliability of …

Design and Development of Experimental Test Rig for Fatigue Life Estimation of Freewheel One-Way Clutch Used in Switchgear Applications at High Overrunning Speeds
Abstract: Freewheel one-way clutch (OWC) is a critical component used in industrial circuit breakers/switchgear to facilitate quick disengagement of the drive when an electrical circuit trips under overcurrent. The clutch acts as a safety device to endure high overrunning speeds and allows the drive shaft to rotate at normal operating speeds during each tripping cycle. The trip mechanism utilizes the stored potential energy of the helical compression spring, which is the …

A Review on Aerospace Materials and Metallurgy
Abstract: Aerospace metalworking is comparable to the foundation of both space travel and transportation. It involves the scientific design and application of metals and alloys to offer components with the strength required for flight and the ability to survive harsh environments. Although other alloys feature cobalt or iron as the main ingredient, nickel makes up most of alloys used in aeronautical applications. When exceptionally high strength is required in moderate-temperature settings, …
