Passive Augmentation Studies in a Double Pipe Heat Exchanger with Ellipsoidal Dimples
Abstract: In this work, the numerical studies of heat transfer augmentation of a counter-current double pipe heat exchanger with ellipsoidal dimples (inward-facing, raised dimples) on the inner tube was performed using SOLIDWORKS software. The effect of dimple depth, dimple pitch and number of dimples/angles between two dimples on heat transfer was investigated at a constant volumetric flow rate of 4 LPM for hot (water) and cold (water) fluids. The effect of …

Thermo-hydraulic Performance of Annular-Finned Double-Pipe Heat Exchanger: Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Metallic and Polymer Composite Tube Wall Materials
Abstract: Double-pipe heat exchangers are central to the process industries — dependable, easily maintained, and straightforward to fabricate. Their conventional form relies on metallic tube materials, most often copper or stainless steel. Both metals conduct heat well, but they are dense, prone to corrosion in aggressive service environments, and increasingly at odds with the light-weighting goals that drive modern system design. Fibre-reinforced polymer composites, epoxy-based materials, and thermally enhanced thermoplastics such …

Optimization of Procedure and Variables of a Double Pipe Composite Heat Exchanger with Protruding Surfaces
Abstract: Under low heat duty conditions, double pipe heat exchangers are employed. When utilized for heavy-duty tasks, they show limitations. To use double pipe heat exchangers for heavy-duty applications, heat transmission needs to be increased. In this project, we are investigating the optimization process parameters of a twin pipe heat exchanger with and without protruding surfaces. In both cases, the inner and outer tubes are composed of steel, and the working …

Enhancing Efficiency and Adaptability of Double Pipe Heat Exchangers: Design and Implementation Perspectives
Abstract: The present study focuses on exploring the intricacies of twin pipe heat exchangers, highlighting their versatility and efficiency in various industrial applications. Twin pipe heat exchangers consist of concentric pipes through which fluids flow in opposite directions, enabling effective heat transfer across significant temperature gradients. This design is particularly advantageous in scenarios involving low flow rates or highly viscous fluids, as well as moderate heat loads. One of the key …
