Effect of Varying Particle Size and Content of Barley Husk on the Physical, Mechanical and Diffusional Properties of Poly Vinyl Alcohol/Barley Husk Composite Films
Abstract: Poly vinyl alcohol (PVA)/natural barley husk (NBH) composite films were prepared using solution casting method. The influence of content (5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 wt%) and particle size (89, 152, 251, 354 and 599 µm) of NBH on the physical, mechanical and diffusional properties of composite films were evaluated. Tensile strength and elongation of the composite films decreased by 55.73 and 59.48% and young’s modulus increased by 76.46% with …

Graphene-Polymer Nanocomposites for Drug Delivery Applications
Abstract: Graphene-polymer nanocomposites (GPNCs) have gained significant attention in drug delivery due to their exceptional physicochemical properties, including high surface area, mechanical strength, tunable functionality, and biocompatibility. These nanocomposites integrate graphene derivatives, such as graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO), with biocompatible polymers to enhance drug loading efficiency, stability, and controlled release. Various natural (chitosan, alginate) and synthetic (PLGA, PEG, PCL) polymers are used to functionalize graphene, enabling targeted …

Synthesis and Characterization of pH-Sensitive Poly (N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acrylic Acid) Hydrogels for Controlled Release of Doxorubicin
Abstract: pH-responsive polymeric hydrogels have attracted significant attention as intelligent biomaterials for site-specific and controlled drug delivery in cancer therapy due to their ability to respond to the acidic tumor microenvironment. In the present study, poly (N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acrylic acid) [P(NIPAM-co-AAc)] hydrogels were synthesized via free radical copolymerization and systematically characterized to evaluate their suitability for controlled delivery of doxorubicin, a widely used chemotherapeutic agent. The copolymer hydrogels were prepared using N-isopropylacrylamide and …

Ocular Films as a Drug Delivery System Against Fungal Infections: Current Insights and Future Directions
Abstract: Fungal infections of the eye, including keratitis, endophthalmitis, and blepharitis, represent a challenging class of ocular diseases due to their potential for vision loss and the limited efficacy of existing treatments. These infections are caused by a range of pathogenic fungi, such as Aspergillus, Candida, and Fusarium species, and often require long-term therapeutic intervention. Conventional topical antifungal therapies, such as eye drops and ointments, suffer from poor ocular bioavailability due …
